Yes, Christine..The old market hall had courts in it, and Millgate had a Gaol.

the reason i ask one of,my ancestors was sent to jail for non payment to his wife ,he came from pemberton ,so cant see him being sent to preston ,liverpool,or manchester ,but then again could be wrong ,
