Wigan actually has two flags and both are available in Wigan market to supporters of Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic

Wigan has no flag. NO 'town' has a flag!
Places do not have flags, coats of arms or crests.
They are only given to individuals or groups of individuals, for various reasons.
Wigan council has one, Wigan football, rugby, cricket etc., has one, Wigan boy scouts and Wigan Women's Guild have one.
But Wigan hasn't!

I put it to you Tonker... that Wigan does have a flag.
I further put it to you that EVERY town has a flag.
Well?

WA ABOUT THE"" ANCIENT AND LOYAL """ COULDNT THAT DO FOR STARTERS?????
Replied: 26th May 2014 at 19:57
That's a motto, not a flag. Anyway, regardless of that, it belonged to the council, not the town!
Replied: 27th May 2014 at 13:01
doesn't the council belong to the townspeople.
Replied: 27th May 2014 at 22:21
No. The townspeople seem to belong to the council!
Actually, the council is the government and it belongs to the crown (currently the queen). The council is run by the civil service (crown employees).
Councillors are not really part of the council. They are not civil servants as they do not work for the crown. They play a parliamentary role, for the people.
But you try telling them that, and they won't believe you!

Which brings me on to that motto ...... 'ancient and loyal'.
The 'loyal' signifies loyalty to the crown. Therefore, all Wiganers should be loyal to the council, and the Queen's government.
So, let's have less of the complaints and the name-calling!

being the premier town in the area it dosnt need a flag

The premier town in the area? What area? Wigan Borough?
Hmmmmm., I suppose it is. But that doesn't say much about it, seeing as it's only competing with the likes of Pemberton, Ashton, Golborne, Hindley, Standish etc.
It's clearly near the bottom of the big league though!

now come on Tonker even you must realise Wigan is the premiere town in the north west theres a good arguement for making it a city

Didnt there used to be a COAT OF ARMS of Wiganon on the Park Gates I am talking PRE WEAR we lived near the Park and I am sure they were on the gates
Replied: 18th Nov 2014 at 17:05
The only 'coat of arms' seen on the park gates, Elizabeth, would be the one of Wigan COUNCIL. Coats of arms have only ever been given to people or groups of people, NEVER to towns. And Wigan hasn't got one!

Interesting original question, I don't know if Wigan dose have it's own flag but plenty of towns and cities do, Preston has a flag, also Lytham St Anne's dose, Shrewsbury dose. plenty others do.
Replied: 30th Apr 2020 at 13:43
Anybody can make a flag and call it 'theirs', but they aren't official flags. Official flags, bearing arms, are only given to people or groups of people ie: authorities. If Wigan Council wanted a flag, they could have one, but it would be for the local authority not the town of Wigan.
Anyway, Wigan already has flags !
