Any stamp collectors on here?

Just found my Dad's old stamp book, he collected them when he was a lad but never really bothered in later life.

I have several of my own and I was a bit obsessive with it in my late teens/early twenties and used to collect every single stamp, but not bothered much since.

Are there any stamp collectors on Wigan World?

I don't know if it counts but I stuck 10,000 stamps on the wall of my downstairs loo. There's even one with Hitler on it and my friend bought me the Olympic ones last year and they are on there as well. I'm planning on putting the Dr Who ones on soon.

Pam - You have kind of given me an idea there. Did you paste them on neatly or is it more of a collage?

I also have some stamps with Hitler on.

They are over lapping because they are all various sizes. I will try to get my act together and put a photo on here so you can see. I also put PVC glue over them to make them warerproof and not as likely to fade. I also used the glue to stick them on.

Pam - I love that - I have millions (honestly) of spare stamps, as I say I used to collect every single one - even from where I used to work.

Fantastic.

It does look nicer than the photos show but any other angle and it would have shown the actual toilet and I thoought I may get some comments about that

"I also have some stamps with Hitler on."

That's not surprising luv.

I have a big collection handed down from my father, but no way of telling which are most expensive or rare. I'd also be wary of how your store them too as many have been ruined by the small adhesive tabs, even though they were at the time proper stamp collecting tabs. I had to throw away a number of stamps which had aeroplanes upside down on them due to this.

I used to collect 1st day covers and presentation packs through the British Philatelic Bureau.

I had to give up because it just got too expensive.

God knows how much each new issue would cost today.

Philately will get you nowhere.

Section 8 - 'That's not surprising luv.'

Tsk!! I know what you mean about the tabs - luckily I haven't really lost many that way and my Dad's look OK. It isn't just the tabs that can ruin stamps, you can get yellowing as well of the stamps and the albums.
