I have written a song.

It is about an arrogant, foul-mouthed, unpleasant, Alt-Right neo-fascist/populist thug.

His dealer, being obese, and a heavy ‘Class A’ user gets quite sick with the Covid, and is hospitalised.

This leaves him facing something of a famine, in these times of lockdown, so he drives off to access his own stash back at the farm.

However, his stock has spoiled, and been got at by rats. He does not wish to risk Weil’s Disease.

He phones the Candy Man, but as local constabulary know him to be a user, the candyman will not deliver, fearing the lockdown leaves him at great risk of being stopped by police whilst carrying.

Now, badly in need of a snort, he decides himself to drive up to the castle and score sufficient for current circumstances. Takes his family with him in case he gets stopped, so he couild always fess up to the lesser crime of taking a day out should he get pulled whilst carrying such a large quantity.

Stopping for a quick snort in the woods, he reflects on how superior he is to the plebs he is forced to tolerate. Even enough stock here to let the Gov have a quick toot upon his return.

I have not quite finished my editing of the wording, as I need to trim the lines to fit the rhythm of a well-known tune made famous by The Singing Nun.

another person I liked was our dear departed member Moodysue, I met her and did a couple of jobs for her, a very nice lady and she told us the tale of her granddad bringing a snig home and slapping in down on the table wrapped in newspaper

Moodysue's tale

yes, thats my problem too, To be good you have to practice, practice practice and i have never had he time or the commitment so, I'm never going to raise my level, I've had teachers in the past who have said, " Tom you have a raw talent, " After many years practice and trying, its still raw, and it always will be because, I don't put the practice in,

Terry has many free lessons, try them and also look at my favorite German, I never knew germans had a sense of humour till I bumped into
christian Fuch, check him out on youtube, he is something else,

I wrote a song called 'Leonard Cohen'.

It is to the tune of 'Hallelujah' (so easy to follow bowt the music, though I have also arranged a nice piano accompaniment)

I'll not bore you with all of it.

First handful of lines are:

I heard yon Leonard Cohen sing
I guess its a sort of Marmite thing
You either hate him or you love him
Don’t you.

Over eighty verses he had penned
Though you only hear three or four in the end
when it comes to Hallelujah that’ll do you.

and so on.

Would love to tom, but I don't have the technology.

Haven't even got a microphone or camera!

Got a piano and a very basic computer, and that is about the limit of my tech. Would not really want any more.

I was prompted to write it through observing two things.

First: I like Leonard Cohen, but I know a lot of folk do not, Strangely those who do not seem to object in relation to musicality, but I find it tends to be musicians who do like his stuff.

Secondly: The irony: that it seems he is going to be remembered for a piece of music that was ignored for the majority of his performing career.

tomplum and all, never consider those years nor those changing characteristics - if you enjoy what you are doing and the ability to pursue that chosen interest is still with you, then carry on with ambitious enthusiasm and ignore the deterrent which tries to knock you down.

Wigan and the bordering areas are full of musicians and many are, as tomplum described in his first sentence of this post: '...getting long in't tooth'.
Sadly, many of these musicians aren't known to a large percentage of local people and some of these musicians no longer take to the stage. Fortunately, some of these 'getting long in't tooth' musicians still perform their chosen music to a listening crowd of people and one venue which regularly holds music events (every two weeks) is The Unity Club in Standish.

If you like to add your own words to an existing tune, look at the Bert Jansch song which I posted on 'Folk Club'.

It is an incredible easy melody to string along your own words to.
