Ants. Are they getting quicker?

Been in the garden today doing a bit of potting and tidying up. I have a few pots which I have turned into planters.
I moved a few of them and the there were a load of ants under each of them. I put my size 10's on them, no problem. Calm before the storm. I Thought, job done. Wrong! Then another lot kept appearing in dribs and drabs. Only a couple at a time but could l catch them with my foot without serious speed , no! I remember when I was a kid we used to sit on the flags and kill them with a wooden lolly stick and we had no trouble catching them.

I did manage to kill a few but as soon as I did another couple would appear. Normally I would not bother with them but last year I had them in my outhouse so i'm a bit more vigilant now. Dethlac is the way forward

We have lots and the permafrost has been below it's normal 8' this year so they must get well down or visit their cousins in Oz.

I've seen loads of ants coming to the rescue when some of them have been
killed..at least that's what it seemed to me..even seen them carrying injured
ones off...seems unbelievable..take time to watch..you'll see what I mean.

I too have noticed a lot of ants this year. I don't mind them as lond as they stay outside

Ask the 1" long one that had a go at my wife`s leg recently here in Adelaide, you could hear it running off.!
Between my wife screaming the Ant laughing and me try to clog dance on it you couldn`t hear the tellie.

I get lots of ant's nests in my Strawberry plots, where I am reluctant to use toxins, so I will be trying this, which I have previously mentioned on another thread.

Rice, ground to a very fine powder in a coffee grinder.

Place in the ant runs. Workers take it to feed to the queen.

Moisture causes the rice to swell, and the queen explodes!

Strawberry beds just washed out this year, so will be another year ere I get opportunity to try out the idea.

All ours have drowned. Rained every day for ages.

On the plus side the garden is very green and I haven’t had to spend on the irrigation.

Does anyone get red ants,not seen them for years but they were biters.I remember having a drink though a straw when I was young and a red ant was in the straw and bit me inside my mouth.

My Dad used to throw bread down where he saw any ants..the birds came
down for the bread ..spotted the ants and that was that.
