Male Shaving Instruments

At the moment, there many types of male shaving implements around, some, in my view, just around to make money from the sale of replacement blades, similar to cheap printers but expensive ink. I was wondering, does anyone still use the old fashioned Gillette safety razor? Blades for them became scarce at one time, however there's many suppliers on eBay now.

Son bought me a modern fold up razor that clips in a half a blade from a whole one snapped in half, but it's lethal, how did folks manage to keep a face with those cut throat razors.

I am currently using cornerstones and Harrys both good lot cheaper than gillette.

I was always amused when they announced that the blades were honed to perfection then, over a number of years, the blades grew from one to two, then 3, then 4 etc.

What they never successfully explained was why you needed more than one blade when the first one that came into contact with your stubble was 'honed to perfection'

I presume that the posters who are currently trialing alternatives have been assured that replacement blades are readily available and considerably cheaper than Gillette or Wilkinson's Sword' offerings.

bb: I think today's choice of blades is for the level you want of what used to be "5 o'clock shadow" and is now designer. Also, for certain different groups, (never know how to say it for fear of being called racist), their whiskers are a bit of a different feel.

mine is a gilette mach 3 & it,s a great shave.

Remember when we could resharpen the old two sided Gillette razer blade then Wilkinson Sword come out with theirs that didn't need resharpening but we still resharpened them we didn't throw anything away in them days

Still use Wilkinson Sword throw away Xtreme3-sensitive blades they last for weeks also have a three head Phillips shaver like Billy for a lazeee shave

I've also got a Phillishave with three rotating heads, some time ago, I had to order replacement cutters from America, couldn't find any locally. On tv many years ago, it was claimed that placing a razor blade inside a pyramid shaped object would miraculously sharpen it, doubt if that worked.

My Dad had a rolls razor!

They were popular, though I think they never became commonplace.

We had a shop in the early 1950's, and I remember we sold quite a few of them.
