I used to watch the NRL when I had sky sports, the game seems to be a lot tougher over there.

I think he couldn’t speak Australian...always thought he was overrated as a player...he was probably just above average...but his ball passing was not good

I think he's been treated badly after saying he wanted to leave at the end of the season. No doubt he'll be snapped up here. I read leigh is a possibility

'hes been treated badly' - in what way??

“If you’re so homesick George, then why did your agent contact rival NRL clubs over summer suggesting you were keen on “getting the full Australian experience and living closer to the beach”?” – that’s the angle Fox Sports’ James Hooper has taken in an incredible tirade launched against George Williams after the latter berated the former on social media.

and his agent....... Andy Clarke - Phil Clarke's brother....as ABBA would say ''money, money money''

I can understand any young player wanting the opportunity to play in Australia. It's the national game there and the support /crowds is bigger. It's an opportunity to experience a different lifestyle . As wigvet says it's about money with the agents. some had made a success out of Australia and others just miss home more than they probably expected to. Good luck to George

Tommy L. will probably retire and Jackson Hastings will be returning to Oz. That means we need two halfbacks.
Harry Smith will doubtless grow into one of the roles but that leaves a gap. Whether George Williams is going to return to Wigan remains to be seen and, contrary to Golden Bear's comments I think he had a poor final season before heading to Oz.
If he does return to Wigan I am hoping he will have improved or he may not be the player we need.

We need a centre Half. Send him to Molineux. But can he stand the pace?

Seriously, good luck to George, and I hope he gets fixed up.

GB,
Do we know that Wigan actively pursued him? I presume if they did then it all boils down to monies offered. A rugby career isn’t all that long so you make as much as you can while it lasts. Good luck to the lad.

There is a lot of Poppycock in this topic

His partner is expecting a baby, and because of the Covid lockdown in Kangeroo Land, she cannot have any visitors their from the UK, and so she and him are feeling isolated, so she wants to come back to this country to have the baby and be with her family, she probably wants her mum

Stuff like that is more important than playing rugby.

George Williams will be in the UK on Saturday, with Gareth Widdop expected to leave for either Canberra or New Zealand Warriors before the end of the season.

That will pave the way for Williams to slot into the Warrington side immediately rather than wait until 2022, according to Sky Sports.

The former Canberra halfback has yet to sign on the dotted line at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, but that is the club at which he is expected to ply his trade for the next few years.

Wigan have released a club statement today. They did have first option on Williams but he told them he wished to play elsewhere. They could have gone down the legal route but didn’t want someone at the club that would prefer elsewhere.

'Poppycock' that Broady

Chairman, Ian Lenagan, commented: “Wigan had a signed agreement in place for George Williams to return to Wigan once his stint in the NRL had finished. During our discussions to bring him back following his decision to leave Canberra, George made it clear personally to me and to Kris Radlinski that he had had discussions with another club and, even though he appreciated what Wigan had done for him, he preferred a new challenge and hence did not want to return to Wigan.

“Wigan could have forced the issue legally but that’s not how we operate. If a player is emotionally absent, then there is no point in him being at Wigan''

I cannot blame him for not wanting to rejoin a Wigan club which is so devoid of direction, class and money

It would seem that contracts don't mean a thing to Mester Williams.
(On both sides of the world.)
btw, don't blame him for looking elsewhere.
