Well city

Started by: Tiger cat (1129)

You have had the luck of the draw so far this season in the champions league, can you go further, having played, only Porto,Marseille, olympiacos, monchengledback, and Dortmund. You have now got a descent team to beat, mind United have beaten PSG twice on their own ground so city should get through,

If you offered any team citys fixtures this year in the champions league they would snatch your hand off,

Obviously that's not the same bloke who's told us for years he "wasn't arsed" about winning the European Cup.

And the other guy who has no interest in football whatsoever yet spends all his days trawling the internet looking for any stick available to beat United with is calling folk bitter.

Just another day on the Sportsboard of WW......

Such bitterness grim.

Didn't you know that the world was watching the Mighty Blues in the big boys league?

I'll bet you'll be glued to the screen when the little boys, also rans, Thursday night trophy is being shown.

Problem is you and your bitter mates will be on your own as the rest of the world is oblivious of it's existence.

MIND THE GAP!

I have always said that it would be nice to win the corrupt european knockout trophy but I wouldn't lose any sleep/give a flying toss if we didn't win it. I stand by that statement.

The Premier League is the number one trophy, and guess what.......................

...........MIND THE GAP IN THAT ONE TOO!

Just watched the Chelsea match - should have had five goals. But, forgetting about those missed easy chances, they played well and deserve to be in the final.
Two English teams. Great!
But, would be much better if they were playing the final in England.

whups,
I am not sure that Chelsea will. I am putting my money on City.
But! You never know
After all, Wigan Athletic certainly shocked the City players and the City fans; probably all the bookies etc, as well - and it certainly wasn't a fluke, because Wigan Athletic definitely deserved that F.A. Cup and I think that most people would agree.

whups,
Anything and everything is possible, especially when they are cup finals.
My great delight is, two English teams in the final and from the two teams last performance, they deserve to be.
Hopefully, our national team can do the same and show the rest of Europe - and the World - that we have the skills to bring 'football home'.

ianP,

Latics most certainly did deserve to win the cup and I was chuffed to bits for them (after my obvious disappointment). They were the better team. I, along with many Blues, applauded them on lifting the cup. I even stayed for their lap of honour proudly displaying my 12 foot "Wigan Blues" flag (M.C.F.C Blues that is). A great day for the town.

For the first time in years I am excited at the prospects of the national team, we have so much young talent on the rise.

GB,

Spot on, it shows that yewafa care more about the 17,000 yewefa "family" matchday jollies in Istanbul than the lives of players and travelling fans.

roylew, I actually spoke about that only an hour ago. I was actually saying that we need to see if we can sort out some English citizenship for those players.

Don GB,
Nice to hear that you applauded the Wigan team and certainly appreciated the way the team played.
As you said, it was a very proud moment for Wigan.
I was hoping that they could do it again, but some unfriendly competetive football players stopped them lifting the trophy once again.

I see what you mean roylew but that's not the way top football works these days.

Last night Real only started with two Spanish players and Chelsea with two English players.

The previous night PSG started with one French player and City with three English players.

None of these clubs (with city just pipping the rest) could claim the national moral high ground.

Maybe we should be proud of English CLUBS as opposed to TEAMS, but proud nevertheless.

Totally agree.
I am so happy that there are two English teams - sorry, Clubs - in the final.
Additionally, I am not a Chelsea fan and I am not a Manchester City fan. But, I am English and will support any English club against a foreign club.
Also, I hope Man City win and this is because of one main reason: I am a northerner.
Of course, if Chelsea were playing against PSG, I would be behind Chelsea all the way.

Following on from that roylew, trafford had four English starters last night which underlines my point. Just as teams have more English starters than foreigners in the Championship than the Premier League, it follows that teams would have more English starters in the Europa League than the Champions League.

The world class players tend to play in, and qualify for, the top competitions, not a dig at trafford, just fact.

The very top clubs tend to dip into the international pool of world class players whereas English players tend to have a more significant presence in the rest.

Don GB,
I am sure that you know, and many people who are very interested in soccer, this, all too well: It comes down to money.
So, I agree with what you said.
I have held conversation with many men outside of the UK and a high percentage of them said virtually the same and it was to do with earning a load of money when you play for one of the top teams in the English 'Premier League'. To many soccer fans around the World, the 'big money' is in the 'Premier League'.
Good example:
- Sergio Aguero moved to the Premier League club Manchester City in July 2011 for a reported fee in the region of £35 million
Previously, Sergio Aguero was earning €5 million a year with Atletico Madrid. Sergio quickly became a superstar at Manchester City and increased his wages to approximately €12.7 (about eleven) million a year.
What is it that people say? Money talks!

Personally speaking, I think that soccer player's wages (the ones we are talking about) should be vastly reduced and transfer fees should be scrapped. Let's get back to the sport and equal opportunities, not to soccer being a business adventure where 'big money' can be made and a small percentage of teams dominate. Additionally, small clubs have no chance and with some of them facing bankruptcy - if not already gone through bankruptcy - I believe that it is time for a change.

To be perfectly honest, most of us have no idea about transfer fees and wages as we are not the people involved: we can only assess from the media etc information. Also, I have heard that Sergio is on about 12 million a year.
What I typed was the information I received. But, Messi and Ronaldo aren't worth the money they are worth by being Wall Street wizz kids, that's for sure.
