do Wiganers still climb up Rivington Pike on Good Friday? it'll be cold up there today!

I would love to climb Rivington Pike........

There was a lot of snow on it when i passed on the M61 on tuesday.

On Good Friday we used to walk from Standish to the top of Hunters Hill, Wrightington.

I would love to have gone there today,but it's too cold for me..we do a lot of walking round there in Summer.. love the place.

As kids we used to walk it on good friday from Hindley.

it's certainly a cold easter. Still= April tomorrow; it must get warmer soon- i hope!

My daughter and grandkids been up there today and yes playing in the snow, Happy Easter, they had a great time.

My mum said that they used to walk to Rivington every Good Friday. So that is 1950's.

I am sure I have read that Rivington (or the area roundabouts) is on ley lines - and so naturally draws people to the place. I daresay someone will put me straight.

The historic Rivington Terraced Gardens look set for a much brighter future thanks to receiving initial support* from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) for a multi-million pound conservation plan.

me and my girlfriend to rivington pike (wife) now of 55 years up there when we where only 16 years old on the bus from wigan never liked that brew when bus was going down it just before the pub.

We walked up to Pigeon Tower via the gardens last saturday and to the top of the pike. Views are amazing

or, "do Prestoners still go to Blackpool on Easter Sunday"?


It's a stupid question, to which the answer is 'some will, some won't'.

Rivington Pike will be lit up RED for the next 2 weeks between 5pm and 9pm. Apparently Chorley council want to get publicity for themselves and hope it promotes the town

But Coun Bradley hit back, saying they wanted to put Chorley on the map, and chose Rivington Pike as a ‘landmark’ to show just how far the town spreads.'

The 'town' is a couple of miles to the west, on the other side of the M61!

Jo anne, please explain why 'Groundwork Lancashire West and Wigan' are involved, when Rivington is neither in Lancashire West nor Wigan?

And, why has Chorley council got what was originally given to Bolton council?

If you don't know, get to know!

I would advise Chorley Council to keep their eye on the funds, or else Wigan council will be syphoning some off for use in Wigan!

MOMAC AND HER HUBBYS FAVOURITE TIME OUT PEACEFULL PLACE

We were up there again last Saturday..had sandwiches and
coffee underneath the pigeon tower..there were young surveyors
there,and told us that Rivington had been granted three
million pounds..think the first thing to have a makeover is
the Pigeon Tower..we love the place and spend two to three
hours walking there.

A little bird tells us Ellie Harrison and the Countryfile team were filming in Wigan today.

The BBC were looking at some of the wonderful wildlife at Wigan Flashes and Three Sisters Country Park.

The footage is expected to be broadcast on BBC1 at the end of the month.

looking out through my lounge window I can see Rivington Pike across the valley and it is lit up with a giant poppy
as part of Remembrance events across the borough, 100 years since the start of World War One.

I remember as a wee girl going up there and as we set off at the bottom there was aAmbulance that had brought a load of children to do th walk I remeber it well as when we got to the top my brother playfully pushed me and down I WENT ROLLONG ALL THE WAY AND SO BADLY INJURED MY FATHER PICKED ME UP AND TOOK ME TO THIS AMBULANCE LUCKY FOR ME THERE WAS A FIRST AID MAN WITH IT , ALTHOUGH HE WASNT REALLY ON DUTY HE WAS THE DRIVER THAT HAD BROUGHT THESE CHILDREN, NEVER WENT AGAIN THAT ONCE WAS ENOUGH

There was snow up there today.

My eldest daughter and family did it this year on good Friday she said it was packed , up to me getting thrs illness I went at leSt once a month using the car lark half way up then walking the ready of the way and it was alway 2nd busy on a nice day

We've been there today..love the place.

Only heard the other day that the filmmakers of A Monster Calls used Rivington as a backdrop in the film.
