Castaways in Hindley.Never forget every Saturday there was a woman called Big Mavis used to go in there with her husband and daughter,her daughter was gorgeous always dancing but us Hindley lot knew the score.We used to watch strangers try to pick her up, then wallop they usually got Mavis's handbag round the earhole and were told where to go.happy days

Remember Blutos when Thursday night was 25p for any drink, nearly always ended up in "Sweaty Betties" later

'Angels' was Trucks prior to that from about 1977 and above was Sloopy's which had an earlier incarnation as the Vegas. Next door in the 70's was Puffers from around 1972 which comfortably morphed into the daddy of them all for any reveller born between 1950 and 1985: Pemps..... If you're not members , don't wait. ( RIP Barbara)

In the mid/late sixties, what was the name of the club which was close to the Telephone Exchange in Dorning Street. I think it went on to be Sloopies or Pemps but in and aroun 1966 I'm sure it had another name. Used to go there after a night in the Clarence.

all great clubs , but further affield ,, blackburn cavendish , blackpool mecca, marthem grange(best tapping place ever ),blightys at farnworth, blackburn mecca,angels and cats whiskers at burnley, mid seventies to mid eighties all of these where great clubs

Just for the record, my weekend started on Thursday nights. Started in a few good pubs back then, Crofters, Vic, Grand and then came Friday night, Wigan rugby club listening and dancing to all the top northern soul sounds and Motown. Saturday night off to Blackpool Mecca and the Highland room on the coach from Wigan, back at 1am Sunday morning straight into the que on Station rd to get in the Casino for the northern soul all nightier untill 8am Sunday morning, straight to Wigan Baths for a refreshing swim. Then hitch hiked a lift to the Mecca northern alldayer, back Sunday night in Wigan, a few more pints in all those wonderful now gone pubs I think and work Monday morning to start all over again. What a great time we had. Wigan was the club and pub capital of the north, great nostalgic times, I then joined all my casino mates to Pemps, Sloopies, bees knees once my casino days were over. I am now 54 and guess what, back on the northern soul scene. Never forgot those wonderful times, I owe it to my little home town called Wigan

Trying to think of the name of one club. It was the Bodega bar, then ???? Leo's?? Then Movies, then became part of Scott's with the old King of Clubs. Still have my membership card for Scott's from 1986, so sad!

Room at The Top was the first place i remember. it wa a wierd place with lots of little rooms, i can't remember where the music came from. i think Whelan took over the building when he opened his first supermarket.All gone now of course

Does anyone remember the name of the night club in King Street West in the mid to late 1960s. I think the "Attic" is in the same building now.
There was a dancing group of 1 boy and two girls who used to dance on tables and plinths to records like Dobie Gray's "In Crowd". There was also a gambling area in a back room. It was popular on a Sunday night around 1966-67.

I think it was Las Vegas, the name changed a lot. I remember two girls dancing in cages at the side of the stage when I went.

I had thought it might have been an assembly of venues he'd put together for the poem. However, if it was a real town he referred to, then I would have liked to have known... to give it a wide berth!
I expect some of his statements in his works could refer to some of the clubs discussed on here. For a while the Bier Keller in King Street was my favourite, but after an evening of around 50 people finding it amusing to throw pints over each other, it sort of spoiled it!

Blutos, top floor,followed by Ajmeer Manzil,followed by King o clubs ,then bus to work, 3 hours later.

Monday nights' right at the top of stairs Blutos' sounds of the sixties... Russ Winstanley on DJ. Magical place. Leo's on King Street down the stairs to reach it. Jokers at the side of the Casino...what a dive :)

There use to be a bar/club on King St West down the side of Wigan Wallgate train station in the mid late 1980's. It was further down from the Santi Bag on the same side.

It had 3 storeys (buildings still there today) there was a bar on the bottom level. The top 2 levels was a nightclub and dance floor.

I think at some point it was called 15's but when it originally opened it had a different name.

Yeah I remember Bluto's. This was (the buildings still there) the big old building further down from the Santi Bag down the side of the train sration were the buses go.
Like I said, it had a bar downstairs then 2 upper floors with a dance floor.
