Does anyone remember the Lord Barrington disco. He worked mainly in the Wigan/Standish area in the 1970's doing resident work at St Marie's standish, Standish Labour Club, The Hesketh Arms, Orrell Rugby Club, Flamingo in Scholes, The Tavern in Newtown etc etc. He also did loads of weddings and social functions.

Lord Barrington (Barrie Groves ) is fit and well and living in Standish. He is retired now and is doing a part time job. Am trying to get names and memories of people who attended his disco's in the period 1974 to 1980 or the names of anyone who had Lord B for their their weddings etc . Any good (or bad) memories of Lord B ? His main venues were St Maries Catholic Club Standish, Standish Labour Club, Orrell Rugby Club, The Tavern Pub Newtown, The Hesketh Arms, Standish Cricket Club Green Lane, The Stork pub Marsh Green and the Flamingo Whelly.

Hi Wiganyankeeron, Yes Lord B did offer prizes for guessing a tune and artist mainly at his gig at the Hesketh Arms however it wasnt for £1k it was more like for one of his car stickers (black and gold round sticker with an old fashioned coach and horse and a gent in a top hat) or one of his car windscreen sun visors. - anyone remember these or better still do you have one.
Hi ivmz4941 - Yes I remember Charlie Fishwick very well I used to help Lord B at the Wrightington Radio and still have a photograph of Lord B at the record decks there. Charlie was a nice guy and worked hard for the hospital and radio station. I also remember another DJ there called John but cant remember his last name and another guy who did all the technical work called Allan.
Hi deno - yes I remember the Garry O Roardshow very well if fact I used to find him work for his disco If you see him (or are you Garry O) remember me to him my name is Julian and I used to manage Lord B.

The D.J. I am thinking of, (I only saw at the Latics supporters club. Although he was well known) I am sure it was Lord Barrington? He would play a record and said if anyone could tell him who was singing, before the record finished he would give them £1,000

Hi Deano. Sorry I have not been on the site since November work, Christmas and other things caught up with me. I remember you well and you helping Garry O great to hear from you. - I dont know where Garry is now. Yes I did live on Shevington Moor and I still live here (have lived here since 1968) and No I didnt ever live on Wigan Lane. Saw Lord B over the Chrismas period and he is fit and well will give him your regards when I see him in a few days. Thanks for replying
Hi bodenl If Lord B did your wedding in 1976 I must have been with him at the evening do as I was his manager. we must have met. What is your surname and where was the wedding reception? Glad you think that Lord B was a "good un" I think he was one of the best during his time.Totally nuts and excentric but good.

Hi Deano. I remember a guy called Terry but cant remember if his last name was Shannon.
Hi bodenl(Linda) - Yes I remember your wedding do well and have just looked it up in my old Lord B diary - looks like we had a good night. Do you remember the roadie we had who worked the lights His name was dave and he had long red hair. He came up to my house over Christmas but I missed him. He has fond memories of those great times as well.Ah! Happy days.
Hi reddi8 No Lord B was not at the Hesketh when Chris Hall was there It was a guy called Peter Willis who was Landlord at the time. I remember that you couldnt get into the Hesketh after 7.30pm when Lord B was on. It was packed and they were good nights. The Hesketh doesnt seem to ever have been as busy since that time. Chris Hall was at the Hesketh before Peter Willis and made a great job of running the pub it was always a busy pub in those days. I think Chris went to a pub in Tontine (near Upholland) after which he went down south and I believe he died quite some years ago.
I spoke to Lord B a few days ago and someone from the Chorley Road Standish area has told him that he is the subject of this chat site. He is delighted and wants to be remembered to everyone. He is not on the net otherwise he would make contact with people.
