continuing of my previous message , have you tried searching the Birth of James say he was married about 1857 and probably age about 17-20 when married so that takes him back to birth about 1840-1837. this is how I have gone about it and I have got back to 1437 including all children of the marriages . if you find the marriage of James that will give HIS father etc. a lot of it is guess work about ages when looking for marriages they were as a rule about 17-20 and sometimes only married by Banns. best of luck if you need any help please post me

Thanks for your suggestions Elizabeth.
I have the details for Elizabeth after her marriage 1880 to William Adams, and also their children.
I suspect her father James may have been born in Ireland. No idea what her mother's name was as I can't find any record of her birth in Wigan, although on the 1881 1891 and 1901 census forms she gave her birthplace as Wigan. Quite a mystery!
I am hopeing to make a connection with another member of the family decendants so that I can establish which of the Collins families on the 1861 & 1871 census forms are 'my' Elizabeth's family.
