A neighbour passes away .....

.... and I only found out today. A few days ago, I believe, Billy Cunliffe, known to many in Ashton.

I once went to Billy's house, and met him, his wife, and his son, but that was at an address just off Owd Road.

It was round about the time he got locked up for running down Wigan Road, because one night someone had run out of the Co-OP without paying, and the offender was last seen running down Wigan Road towards Ashton, at the same time Billy who had been in the Bath Springs was running down Wigan Road to get last orders in before Bryn Labour Club shut, and a police van spotted him, and so they pulled up, and threw him in the back of the van, and drove off to Ashton police station, and what made Billy most mad was that he had missed his last pint in the club, the police quickly realised their mistake and let him go, and as he was ranting at them about missing last orders, they just laughed at him

Was his wife Christine and daughter Laura? Can’t remember the sons name.

Billy’s wife was Sheila and daughter Beverley. Many years ago they had a shop in Ashton called Beverleys.

Yes, Gaffer, I was told it was just before Chrimbo. But I don't think anybody knows. Then again, he ne'er went aaai'ght. Bill Roberts hadn't heard either, an' he misses nowt!

i think his son is named david & if it is he had 2 children with kym marsh.
