Kitt Green

Started by: winnie (1534)

Hi everyone I'm asking for info if anyone has it please .I'm looking for info on my step grandads family from Kitt Green .My grandad was called John Johnson , my dad remembers living in Kitt Green in the late 60s with his step dad John ,mum Dorothy and Johns mum . He said the house was near open fields but this was the front of the house. My dad only lived there for a few months before they moved. I'm not sure if Johns mum was married but i know john had a sister Margaret , and she had a daughter also Margaret who was special needs but she still worked . Ive been looking for years for him on the 1939 register but i have no idea of his mums name or the address they may of lived in in Kitt Green .My granddad worked at Heinz

Lots of Kitt Greeners buried in St John's Pemberton.
Lots of Catholics buried there too because St Cuthbert's never had a grave yard of it's own.

Also winnie, the registers for St John's are available to view at Wigan Library. Not at the moment though due to restrictions.

You dont say what your fathers name was ? there is a marriage in 1951 in that area at a methodist church between John Johnson and Dorothy Hitchen , but I believe Dorothy remarried in 1960 to Ronald Dean , assuming the burials you are looking for are burials and not cremations it would depend on the date, as someone as already indicated St. Johns Pemberton is one and also St. Marks Newtown, after 1948 it is possibly at Gidlow Cemetery if at a Council grave yard. Heinz Factory in Kitt Green only opened in the mid 1950s before that they had one in Standish. also there is a John Johnson on the 1939 register 8 years of age living in Marsh Green which is the same area as Kitt Green

If I remember correctly Charles St was off City Road(as was Peter St)
somewhere around where the "New Inn" is now. I've no idea who Charles & Peter were or what their connection was with Kitt Green. Although Peter St is still there I'm not sure that Charles St is.

Winnie ,I noticed you asked a similar question some years ago which was on a thread that gaffer had put a map of the area with Charles Street houses as you described.
From the information of your grandfather and his sister it is likely that the mother's maiden name was Atherton

Winnie:

Loch Street is in Pemberton which is off Queen Street, and Queen Street is off Fleet Street. It could be argued that Loch Street is in Orrell, (as Tonker will ) {pre-emptive strike } as it's right on the border of Pemberton and Orrell.

Very easy to find though.
