Not sure if anybody has heard of this already or signed up? but i think its a wonderful idea.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wiganfreecycle/

"The Wigan Freecycle® Network is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it.

One constraint: everything posted must be free. This group is part of The Freecycle Network, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills."

I've just rehomed my old kettle, some clothes and a cotbed on there that were just too good to throw away and atleast i know someone will be making use out of them! as they say one mans trash is another mans treasure! [:p]

Thats a brilliant idea! Cos even charity shops charge to collect large items now.Which puts me off donating them. Also they charge over the odds for some things.I will have to have a look what I wanna get rid of, when I moved in with the old man, we joined 2 houses, so ended up with excess stuff which is still boxed up.So Thanks for that link !

I see a problem, some people may get items from this freecycle & sell them on unless you could enlighten me as to how it works,

If you list an item offered and more than one person requests it you do get to choose who can have it.
Some people try to give you an entire sob story of why they want it and some are more believeable than others.
I think (and i hope) that most people on there are genuine and take items for their own use but one person did message me wanting several items i had listed and their story seemed a little over exaggerated. They had posted some ads up requesting certain items (like mobile phones) but then on ebay (using the same name they have on freecycle) they appeared to be selling untested mobile phones!!! So i gave the items to someone a little more genuine!!
Chances are though that most things given on freecycle although still good to use arent worth selling and that is why they are on there in the first place.
I havent had much luck yet with acquiring freebies on there. But i have given quite a lot on there so far and i am just glad my stuff is going to some use!!

There is a list of rules for each local freecycle group and one of them states that if you are taking the item with intention to sell it then you need to be honest and tell the giver beforehand.

Comes down to trust, I've joined and will list anything thats of no use to me.No doubt theres folk ripping others off , but what the hell.....if it helps some of the members its worth joining.Beats having the garage cluttered up.
