gerry the ice cream man

all this talk of rag bone men and horses has reminded me of another horse and cart.does anyone remember gerry the ice cream man(going back a long time)he used to ring a bell to let you know he was on his way and we all ran in mithering for a cornet.only the grown ups had wafers cause they were dearer.

My Dad was ice cream man till he died he started with a horse and cart all round Ince & Wigan

We had a chap we called Little Billy & he drove a horse & cart selling ice cream. I think it belonged to Ramsdales from Bryn, Remember it Ferdy?

no soz I do not but I do remeber going asking the ice cream man for broken cornetts,and yep my Dad always got a 99,as did was to dear for the kids what memeories

I think the guy plum47 could be referring to was Gerry Vanasey he worked for Charles ice cream.They had a shop in Manchester Road Higher Ince the works was in Caroline Street and then the moved to Holt Street.Yes Sandra your Dad did work there along with my Dad they only had one van the first vehicle that I drove it was a Jowitt if thats the way to spell it.
