Family Quirks?!

I was sat in wigan infirmary yesterday chatting to my mam who is in having treatment.
We were talking about relatives I didn't know from years ago.I was stunned at some of the characters we had in our family!
Some were well known locally too.Apparently my great uncle was known for living with both his wife and mistress, having children by both, going on holiday with both, and the wife and mistress even worked together.The rogue eventually parted from the mistress when he reached his seventies! WOW!
Another relative used to clog dance just outside wigan, I think there was a mound in the middle of the road around the area where middleton and woods is in wigan, he was well known for his clog dancing on it.......
On my dads side..........a relative was charged with shooting a mayor of wigan, he was poaching at the time, and got off as he had mistook the mayor for fair game..
Do any of you have characters like this from your past relatives?

I don't know of any characters in our family. You should get as much info as poss and write it down. The person shooting the Mayor would make a great story.

My paternal grandfather was a basketmaker in Eccleston in the late 19th century and I suppose into the 20th,he was known as Dicky Quirk.In those days to get to market you walked and he used to carry his baskets to Chorley markets and his name came from the way he "quirked" his load,or something like that,for easier carrying.

My Great Grandfather was known as Jan Puff, because he worked on the steam trains.

my wifes side were from lytham-st-annes. they were a long line of shrimpers with there own boats. down the years they served with distinction in the lifeboat service. if anyone in here remembers the mexico drama off lytham years ago, then in that disaster, she lost two relatives.
as for my side???not a great deal known. but i am happy to report, that in a recent family tree check, i didnt find anyone hanging from the tree.

My greatgrandma used to go to Wigan Parish Church on Sundays and then for some reason, went to the "Pier Head" and sailed her Sunday besthat on the canal!!!

My nans family were bargees when she was a nipper, they had to stand her on the bank when they turned the boats as she was terrified of water.
