See you Gemmy

I'm off to to the English/Scottish border tomorrow to cycle the Adrians wall route, I've found a campsite to make a base camp in Longtown near Carlisle which has one foot in England and the tuther in Scotland and, from there, its a ' suck it and see' what happens next adventure , I'll be incognito for a while because I'll be surrounded by, nature and all that goes with it and as a famous actor once said,
" I'll be back "

I have never been to canal street, but in the early 1970s we had a holiday in the south of Scotland, or as the Scots say in the Borders, but also in the early 1970s during my train spotting days, I would go to Glasgow and then ride on the Push Pull sets between Glasgow & Edinburgh, which I thought were brilliant, and I could not understand why they did not use that setup of train in the rest of the country LINK

did you have a parka on and have a little book?
Replied: 1st Jul 2025 at 15:06

Basil
Actually I did have a parka, which I had bought from the Famous Army Stores on Market Street in Wigan, and I also had the little hard backed book, the Ian Allen Combined Volume, which was the train spotters bible, which I would purchase yearly from Smiths in Mesnes Street in Wigan, but as I have explained several times before, I wasn't really interested in collecting loco numbers, which was done by underlining the listing in the book, I just liked trains, but that book was much more than a volume of loco numbers, it had directions in it on how to find train depots, I also bought the magazine 'Modern Railways' every month, which was good, the only thing I cannot remember now, is what I was wearing on my feet in those days

Trains Illustrated was the most popular railway magazine during the days of steam locomotives and first generation diesel mulitple units.

There'll be wee beasties invading his tent during the day, and at night he'll be hearing the hooning sounds of ghosties, goblins and lang-leggedy beasties to keep him awake; but, knowing Tom, he'll have thought of all these things, and taken special precautions to hold them at bay, with an AK-47 and some 7.62 cartridges.

We stopped in a B&B along Adrian's wall miles from anywhere but very scenic.Tom will have to be careful riding along this road there are a few steep dips in the road which are blind spots..

No chance of that BB, It rained then rained harder and then rained more, Now I've come home it followed me,,,
Tom Plum news at 9 , wet, soaked through and completely wizzed off...
Replied: 4th Jul 2025 at 21:15

Well, Tom, I won't ask you if you enjoyed yourself.
Today has been grey sky, windy, cold and raining. A typical British summer.
Replied: 4th Jul 2025 at 22:28

I did enjoy myself Mollie but it would have been better if the sun was shining, I love the countryside and all that is in it, Open air, greenery , mountains and trees but, tree huggin' in the rain does not work the same when the floor is wet because, 1. the rain insulates the vibes and , 2 its cold to the feet,
I'll be going again soon,,,
Replied: 4th Jul 2025 at 23:11

Tom, you could've come with me instead, done a bit of diggin', then hugged as many trees as you wanted as I've got hundreds of 'em!
I'm sure my trees would've loved that!
And there won't be any rain where I'm going tomorrow!
