Where is an Ashton name from?
I have a lot of Davies family relatives in my family tree, they seem to associate with Speakmans in Ashton quite a lot.
I always thought Davies sounds Welsh, does anyone know the history the Davies families, did they move from Wales before the 1700's or have they always been resident in Ashton?
I can do the records checks, but they all have same names so telling them apart is tricky! After about 1750 they all blur together.
I know when I worked in Warrington, a few people used to travel from North Wales to work there so I don't suppose its unreasonable if they migrated

No, you’re getting him mixed up with Johnny Picton, a chap I once bought a pair of cotter pins off!

Ha Ha,
I remember him, dirty blue tracksuit and racer who hung around school gates and followed the school bus up Wigan rd while kids shouted hey Johnny to him from the upstairs window

Thankfully times have moved on and, The diamond shaped pedal arm no longer needs a cotter pin,,,
