Winter Fuel Allowance Part 2

Started by: fedup (260)

It transpires that approximately 35000 UK pensioners living abroad will still get their Winter Fuel Allowance!
The stupidity of Government knows no bounds!
Perhaps we should all move to Spain, Portugal etc??

Only sums up the thinking of MP's these days.

A newly elected Labour MP in Bolton together with the Unison Union think that it is only migrants who are exploited by employers.

Has she never heard for a example of the private companies that now employ carers on the minimum wage with no added pay for working unsocial hours, no matter what colour, religion or background they come from in our country.

Brits living in Spain or Portugal will not get fuel money, because they are warmer than here!
Here is a list of the "yes" countries.

Austria
Belgium
Bulgaria
Croatia
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
Germany
Hungary
Iceland
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Liechtenstein
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Netherlands
Norway
Poland
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
Sweden
Switzerland

Take it from me, not all of Spain, or Portugal, is warmer than England in winter. And, some of those listed countries certainly are!

Can't argue with you Tonks, I don't know enough about it.

The list I put up was from Gov.UK

I’ll explain, then you’ll know something about it. Where I am is a 2 hour drive from the Pyrenees. It snows here in winter and freezes. There are actually glaciers in Spain!

Sicily, Italy, rarely drops below 15 degrees, yet Italy is on your list!

That said, not many people living in Spain or Portugal will be entitled to pension credit (legitimately), so it’s all relative!

As regards the new Labour government and the lead balloon decision to remove the Winter Fuel Allowance, it really has upset a lot of pensioners, who know doubt voted for Labour at the general election, only for one of the first things that Labour did was to give those pensioners who voted for them a kick in the teeth.

How do you know for certain the tories wouldn't have removed it?

After all they are quite good at telling lies. The £350 million per week and 40 new hospitals promised were in their brexit manifesto.
Once they "got brexit done" it's never been mentioned!

The only thing that has been "done" are the people who voted for it

If the tories had removed the allowance, you wouldn't have the liebour faithful on here saying they agree with it because some pensioners can afford it. They would be shouting from the rooftops about how the tories were barstewards, hate the working class etc.

Let’s face it, the pensioners who are on a low income will lose nothing. Couples who are getting £440 plus a week will lose about £5 a week. Is it worth bothering about?

I don’t think you’ve said that right.
None the less, the fact is, those on low incomes will lose nothing, like I said earlier.

Those on low incomes or should I say benefits never do!

Its those who are kept just above the figure where you can claim benefits that will miss your £5 per week

If you’re single and on less than £218 a week, plus you have less than £16,000 in capital and you don’t own land and property, you won’t lose anything. £332 a week for a couple.
If you have saved up, invested, or paid into a private pension, you’ve shot yourself in t’foot!

I don't think IAM anywhere near being on the top 50% of wealthy pensioners and I don't need the heating allowance so it figures that at least 50%% of pensioners don't need it and IAM guessing most of the whinging Tories on here don't need it,I'd soon the government give it to the needy

I'm assuming he means the genuine needy pensioners that don't have the benefit of a private pension or two, or three.

There will be pensioners who don't or will not claim what they are entitled to and will freeze over winter and some will die. Our boat people will be kept in the warmth over winter and if any objection is raised about this the stock answer is they are not used to the cold weather

What they say in the media about the thousands of people not claiming what they are entitled to is miles away from the reality of actually getting it as many have found out when they have applied.

People need to consult any member of the workshy as they are the experts in getting the benefits!

It is only yourself who has ever said anything about pensioners like myself spending their winter fuel allowance on winter holidays!

As for Labour doing a massive U turn, it is only because of of losing so many Labour votes and becoming so unpopular in only less than a year, that I like many others will not being applauding what was a terrible political suricidal blunder!

p.s. Oh and if I was looking for a holiday, it would not be for one in your wonderland world of mad hatters tea parties!

Not much being said on Wigan World these day's about the present Labour government's policies and the present shambles in the running of the country by those who had a lot to say prior to the general election about the fourteen bad years of the last lot.

As a result of what has happened in just one year, Councils which were Labour controlled for years are now under the control of a right wing Reform party and it has happened with the help of many traditional Labour voters!

The founders of the Labour Party like Kier Hardie, James Maxton, Sydney and Beatrice Webb etc must be turning in their graves with what has happend to the now non Socialist Labour Party they created!

Now pick the bones out of what is a bit of truth!

I think this is the worst Labour? government ever. I would not trust anyone from Starmer down,a complete shower and blatant liars.I used to be member of the Labour Party and I find it hard to understand why they have gone like this and seem to have little regard for people.I know the Tories left a mess but how long can Labour hide behind it.
