Water is considered to be expensive in Europe, though varies much between the various countries, and UK is mid ranking amongst these.

Rainfall is plentiful, most years. Potential catchment is not scarce. However, our systems costs are very high.

I would like to see houses build with grey water capture: filtered rain run-off, the water run from hot tap until desired temperature obtained, etc etc... captured and stored for non potable water use, eg toilet flushing, possible laundry etc.

Considering such as a retro fit to my own home.

Water in Spain is cheap. Mine is €110 a year plus usage, but that’s only a few cents a unit.
Bottled drinking water is only 56 cents for 8 litres. Them small bottles they pay a pound for, over here, are about 20 cents.

I agree tonker. I too was dischuffed to find water in UK cost me more than it had cost in arid countries.

Time the water companies did more to sort the leaks out on the main water supply. Billions of gallons lost every year through these leaks

I use high pressure lance type of car wash, ie not automatic car wash. I asked this morning, and was told it does recycle.

I believe this, because were the water to go down mains drainage, regulations mandate that a gully trap is required, and it is apparent that there isn't one.

So, I did some online searching. Both types can use recycling, and it is economics driving the change over to recycled car wash water, ie it lowers their water bill.

For various reasons, the recycle rate is not 100%. Recycled water, for example is not suitable for final rinse, but tends to be used for the soap cycle. Removing sufficient soap from used water is just too expensive, either in power, or consumables used.

Wherever mists are generated from water not immediately taken from the mains, Legionella control measures are also needed.

It looks as though the overall picture is quite complex.

How about a bucket of soapy water, a big sponge, rinse off with a hose pipe, or several buckets of clean water thrown over the car, and finish it off with a rub from a shammy leather
