Heard it's been put back for 3 months????Did anyone watch the Panorama programme on Monday regarding China infiltrating these foreign companies by investing in them. I don't think the council are pleased with 'MAO TSE TUNG SQUARE' replacing 'MARKET SQUARE'

China seems to be experiencing a resurgence of Maoism, however, it has fallen out of favour within the Chinese Communist Party, beginning with Deng Xiaoping's reforms in 1978.

I bet they will pull their funds if Wigan names a square after him.

SD I did exactly that at a meeting with the CIVIC TRUST and two consultants a man and a woman. forget their names?? employed by the council. to oversee the project. The guy?? representing the council, was nice and friendly until I asked him if he could confirm or deny the rumors circulating around the town that the Chinese had Pulled Out?? His demeanor radically changed and said that he wasn't prepared to discuss rumors and ended the meeting. So draw your own conclusions?? Time will tell...

"His demeanor radically changed and said that he wasn't prepared to discuss rumors and ended the meeting"

I dont pay attention to rumours either so on that basis it seems reasonable to me

Do you pay attention to rumours?

If you haven't heard something or seen something first hand then everything is a' rumor' I suppose Until its authenticated. .. If it turns out the be true, then it's a FACTUAL RUMOR if its untrue then its just a 'rumor'. i.e. something circulated as an unverified account.
Everyone at the meeting said, Well if its just a rumor why don't you say so??? Your reluctance to deny it leads us to think it's true.. The start of the demolition is now 9 months behind the scheduled start date Why does the council not come out and tell us why the delay???? Is it any wonder "RUMORS"? start.

If the Chinese have pulled out, the rumour started following local MP Lisa Nandy questioning the UK having commercial dealings with China with its appalling record on Human Rights!

“Why does the council not come out and tell us why the delay???? “

In my opinion, if they are not telling the public the reason for the delay it means it’s not in the best interest for someone involved, including the public to know the reason for the delay.
Sub contractor issues.

I can think of several reasons for a delay, not just someone pulling out.

Planning constraints
Compulsory purchase delays
Funding issues
Contractual issues and disputes
Procurement and manning difficulties.

And if those involved see the reasons for the delay as confidential or prejudicial to their business and don’t want the public to know they won’t tell them……. That’s how it works.

Yes, someone could have pulled out, but myself?…. I will listen out an official statement, not listen out for rumours

Loose lips……sink ships…..and all that

cast your mince pies over this . Then remember we are just emerging from a world wide pandemic, we are heading into recession, inflation is raging, materials are in short supply, skills and labour is also in short supply.
