got mine today my DD has risen from £50 a month to £180 per month,

No its a certain set of circumstances , they did't read my meter in the winter months and gave us a low DD payment, we knew this was coming so we are ready for it, so when the last reading came with 3 months winter and 3 months Spring plus the hikes, We are braced for the impact but, there must be many who just ignore the warnings and end up on a downhill spiral,

I was out of deal last October, went from £71 to £128 on one of the last deals to be had for dual fuel. I am tied in till November 2023, so hopefully prices will drop by then. However when I got my bill after 6 months they wanted to drop the electricity part of the bill by £42 and changed the direct debit accordingly even though I owed them approx. £145. I put it straight back up as my electricity usage won't change. My gas usage was pretty low and I was in credit by approx. £70 after a 6 month winter bill. They said I was on track and no change to my payments!

My gas bill was £1.78p !! it had been severely over estimated in the past even though I send in meter readings regularly. And for good measure I am over£200 in credit.... but they still take a monthly £178 in debits..... wiill ring them if it doesnt balance out soon. I am with Bulb now in taxpayers ownership I believe.

I'm with "bulb" for electric. My d/d is £60 a month and it hasn't gone up. I'm £65.54 in credit at the 4th April's bill.

It shouldn't go up if you're in credit!

My gas boiler broke down in 2013 and I haven’t been able to afford to have it replaced, so no central heating since then.

During the coldest months I use two electric fan heaters in my living room and/or a blanket over my legs. To cut down on my electric I use my washing machine and dryer once a week but, obviously, the fridge and freezer are plugged in all the time, and I use my kettle perhaps 4 – 5 times a day.

When it’s really cold, I light my gas oven and leave the door open to warm my kitchen, and I do use the oven occasionally. My bill for gas usually works out at around £15 month, so the rest is electric.

From April to May this year, I am told that my combined gas and electricity bills are £237 for the month, and I’ve no idea how that’s even possible.

When I joined Bulb a few years ago my monthly direct debit was £97, but over the years it went up to, and stabilised, at £137 a month – fair enough – but who else pays so much a month? Any suggestions?

You would have been better off with using a gas fire in your living room, instead of electric fan heaters.

Mollie, my "bulb" payment is for electricity only. My gas is with British Gas and I only pay for what I use, no direct debit contract for me! In winter the gas might be around £120 a month.

If you're with "bulb" for electricity, you're only paying the same as I pay, as "bulb" has only one price.

You might be well in credit. I'd ask questions!

The massive increases are based on what the supplier estimates you will use in the following twelve months which in many cases are not accurate as the could be reasons for an overestimation ie. in the case of gas, an old boiler which made have been recently replaced by a new economical boiler which they do not know about or you have moved into a new property where the suppliers have had no previous record of the amount of electricity and gas used in that property as they did not have record of the meter serial numbers to check any previous record of supply with other suppliers.

One of my Daughters moved into a new property and the supplier said that she wound have to pay an amount for the year which I knew was overestimated At the end of the year, she had a credit of £287.36 and her monthly payment was reduced.

People should not allow themselves to be bullied by the suppliers as they are in many cases overestimating the amounts they are saying you will use over the next year in order to recover losses during the pandemic!
