Help with energy bills, means tested benefits.

Started by: gaffer (7930)

From the Times

More than eight million households on means-tested benefits will receive lump-sum payments worth up to £600 to help with the cost of living, Rishi Sunak is to announce.

The Times has been told that the chancellor will spend more than £6 billion on support for the poorest households to help them with soaring energy bills. The payments, which are likely to be made in two instalments, will go to everyone on means-tested benefits, including universal credit, pensions credit, housing benefit, jobseekers’ allowance and income support.

It will come on top of a £400 discount on energy bills for every household in Britain.

The combination of measures is designed to be “temporary and targeted” for what ministers see as a short-term economic crisis. They are determined not to significantly increase the size of the state.

The chancellor will scrap plans for a “rebate and clawback scheme” that would have given people a £200 discount on their energy bills from October. Energy companies would have recouped the money through higher bills over the next five years, which led to criticism that the measure was effectively a loan.

Who is in charge of this country?
The press! You would have thought that parliament would have been the first to know of any measures but it only goes to show who owns this country namely the press barons.

It had been leaked, and mentioned more than once on TV that this would be put out today in order to move the news on from Boris's behaviour in respect of breach of lockdown constraints.

It was put to Boris yesterday. Naturally, he denied it, so I guess we interpret that as affirmation.

Rishi Sunak also announces a one-off disability cost of living payment of £150.

"Many disabled people will also receive the payment of £650 I've already announced, taking their total cost-of-living payments to £800," the chancellor says.

The country is run by the Carlton Club, members of which are leading Tories and Freemasons!

The Broadsheet Newspapers, the BBC and even members of the Royal Family are part of the Establishment!

They are the ones who know everything before the Politicians in Parliament.

Our petrol is at an all time high and the cost of most goods is increasing significantly. We have no Brexit, no Partygate, we don’t get oil or gas from Russia, so what is causing our inflation? We do have two faced politicians however. I think it is a world wide problem.

Its called greed by those at the top in business, but not many appear to be protesting about it by going out on the streets!

Apathy being the key word for people today.

The last time I saw people out on the streets in any kind of numbers was when Thatcher tried to introduce the poll tax. Apathy is indeed the key word.

Now to busy with their new big houses, second homes, caravans, boats, foreign holidays, expensive cars, latest technology etc, etc.

Protesting on the streets about being ripped of with food, fuel and energy prices being the least of many peoples priorities today.

Unless, of course, there is a major recession or massive inflation to motivate the public into action!

40% reduction in energy bills ? But not for us, laaaaike!
Spain have also knocked 20c a litre off fuel, too.

They've "broke ranks with the EU", eh? So did we, so where's our reductions?

Like the former poverty ridden East European Communists States, Spain was brought up to better standard of living by the big four EU states of France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Plus of course, the holiday industry where again, we are one of the biggest contributors to their economy!

As a result, Spanish companies like Santander now own British companies.

We paid and they prospered!

And people questioned our coming out of the EU!

if thatcher had done wot they did in the EU we would,nt be in this situation today . but instead of taking a 51% like germany did & have the energy companies come "cap in hand" to the government to put any rise up we now have vitrually all our energy companies foriegn owned & put up prices at their leisure & send their profits back to their respective countries who wont let them put any rise up above the rate of inflation ? .that,s the question here .

Poppycock was appropriate. Whups must have a random duff fact generator.
The two giants of Germany power generation are both owned by private and institutional shareholders. In the case of E ON the majority of it’s shares are owned by foreign investors.

E.ON
Our most recent survey at year-end 2021 shows that we have roughly 61 percent institutional investors, roughly 21 percent retail investors, about 18 percent other investors. Investors in Germany hold about 42 percent of our stock, those outside Germany about 58 percent.

Probably hates Billinge as well because he takes his money up to Bolton-le-Sands and that sounds French.

I think being down t'pit makes you that way, you lose sight of the big blue yonder.

Where did I mention Billinge in my roam aeround the world and WW people?

I mentioned Billinge (short for Billinge Biker) who goes up to Bolton-le-Sands, now there's a clue. The whole of Billinge, as far as I know unless there is some tradition, doesn't go up to Bolton-le-Sands from time to time.
