Wallgate finished

Started by: riocaroni (675)

Been up town today and was surprised that every cone had been removed. Was just wondering how long it will be before any new roadworks are required in Wallgate, I'll bet it's within 3 months?

I noticed today on my bike ride that, they have removed the lights on the crossing on Pottery road to the canal bridge at trencherfield Mill, That road is no less busy and folks still need to cross the road so. I'm wondering what the thinking is behind that move ?

According to the plans, the crossings are being moved back down to where the road went round from Wallgate into Pottery Road PDF Download

Why between Miry Lane and Great George Street, a cycle path which will be hardly used instead of three vehicle lanes, one into the town centre and two into Queen Street.

Any why not have Miry Lane made one way towards Wallgate with a set of traffic lights allowing vehicles to go straight across towards Pottery Road instead of Haig Street where vehicles now have to now go further along Wallgate to access Pottery Road.

Wallgate used to go from two lanes to three lanes from Caroline Street, to Queen Street up until 2018, when they widened the pavement, creating a shared space for cycles and pedestrians, it became two lanes from then on, the two lanes have now been restored from the one lane they created last year, and along with the now separate cycle lanes, I like it, it looks awreet, and you don't really need a dedicated left lane to go under the bridge, in fact that came from when they originally built the ring road, and widened Wallgate in 1986, and they put in a left hand lane filter signal, which was permanently on green, to allow traffic in the left hand lane to go under the bridge, when the lights were on red for traffic going into Queen Street, unfortunately this proved confusing for motorists, who thought that the green left hand lane filter signal, meant that you could drive into Queen Street too, a few bumps occurred and on one particular Saturday night, an awful accident happened, when a single decker bus flattened a mini car, the bus literally ran over the car, I saw the result of that accident that night, and how the young couple inside that car survived that accident, it just beggars belief, the mini driver thought that the filter arrow meant that he could drive around into Queen Street, so after that the left hand lane filter signal was removed, and from then on all three lanes of traffic had to stop when the lights turned to red.
