Favourite sporting moments.

Whilst bb has started a thread which so far hasn't been spoiled how about three sporting moments you have either seen live or watched on telly. Mine would be England winning the world cup in 1966, Redrum winning his third national in 1977 and watching Brett Kenny playing for Wigan.

Latics getting promoted to the F.L.
Latics getting promoted to the Premier League.
Latics winning the F.A. Cup.
N.Y. Yankees winning the World Series against the N.Y. Mets in 2000

Watching Wigan winning the Challenge Cup at me first (not last) Wembley in 1985

Isle of Man TT races , I went there 1973 and in 1974 I took my bike over and did the Mad sunday, We don't get much coverage on TV and that is good because, If sky took it on, they would ruin it, Mad men doing insane speeds on B roads is so thrilling to watch but, when it goes wrong, Its devastating,
The wokes will stop it one day, No body is forced to do it because its the only place in the world where its allowed,
To put it perspective, Its like going from Wigan to Morecambe on the old roads in 17 minutes, Zooooooooooom ,,

Roger Bannister in 1954 breaking the four minute mile barrier.
Bolton Wanderers beating Manchester United in the 1958 FA Cup Final.
England winning the 1966 Jules Rimet World Cup Final.
Wigan RL beating Manly in the 1987 World Cub Challenge and then beating Brisbane Broncos in Brisbane to win the 1994 World Club Challenge.
Wigan RL winning eight successive Challenge Cup Finals between 1988 and 1995.
Wigan Athletic beating Manchester City to win the 2013 FA Cup Final.
The England Cricket team beating Australia in Ashes Series.
Even the horse Red Rum winning the Grand National three time and runner up twice.

Tom, it's good to see someone mention a "SPORT" which isn't a 'team game centred around a ball'.
The TT really is breathtaking to spectators in the right position.
But ..... you say "No body is forced to do it because its the only place in the world where its allowed," and that isn't true.

Yea that is PROPER frightening especially as they ride in the rain and all set off at the same time,

When I worked in Belfast I was somehow persuaded to go to Cookstown to watch some motor bike road races. We were stood in the middle of a field in the pouring down rain and the only good thing I can say about it was it kept me out of the pub. There was a race of vintage motorbikes at the end and the noise and smell of the old bikes was OK.

No, I disagree, watching Wigan win the Challenge Cup, is much better than watching Yoonited winning the treble, because Wigan deserved it

How can you disagree to whatever Golden Bear claims to be HIS favourite sporting monemt?

I'm like you tonks, ball games don't excite me at all but, when my youngest was young he wanted to go to every football and rugby game that was on, So I compromised and promise to take him to All the home rugby games and on special days, ( birthday, Christmas etc ) I would take him to Latics as well, So anyrode we was at a Christmas Latics match at the Springfield Park ,They were playing Bristol and Wigan scored a goal, All the Wigan fans were jumping up and down and running about full of excitement and, I'm leaning against a wall totally uninterested and wishing it was hometime when this lad approached me and asked " were thee from laiiiiike" ,, I answered, " Bryn Why ?" Then it occured to me he was thinking I was a Bristol fan because I was't jumping about like a demented looney like all the rest of them, When, next thing Mylad came running over who was, jumping about like a looney and shouting " Dad Dad we're winning yippee and waving his Latics scarf in my face and shouting gerr us a pie from'T burger bar, Which convinced the other clown to go away and get back with his goon mates, I had to put up with taking my lad from the age of 5 to about 15 when he was old enough to go by himself, He also played Rugby ( and still does) from the age of 8 to 18, which involved me, taking him training 3 times a week then the match on a sunday morning, My leisure time was took over for that period of time by football and rugby and that was quite enough for me, I'm well please that I don't have to visit a ground ever again,

So why is my particular favourite event irrelevant ????
P.S. Also being a rugby league supporter for more than 66 years there were also many,many glorious events during that period ,but it was a close choice i had to make , in future i will try to fall in line . ( I THINK NOT T.T.S )

Watching the Latics see off Shefield Wed at Springfield Park in the FA Cup,
going in the latics club that same evening where Harry Pemberton kept enquiring " has Jack Charlton gone wom yet"
(jack was the manager at that time)

I dont watch rugby anymore but i did as a kid & when there was a scrum down it was a fight with the feet to get the ball, now in a scrum they feed their own feet i don,t see why they need a scrum would a penalty not do?

Bentlegs / I completely agree with your comment's on scrums in rugby league . In the past when a team got the " put in or feed " as we used to refer to it ,the side feeding fed the ball in the middle of the tunnel , now because the side feeding it their Hooker had sight of the ball entering and thus struck with his foot to heel it out , Occasionally you what was called "" A strike against the head meaning the opposing hooker if he was a good un struck at just the similar There time but managed to heel the ball out on his side . There were times were the opposing hooker if struck for the ball too soon would be penalised , NOW days it's an UTTER joke seeing these " so-called forwards trying to bend their backs to form a scrum , most of them look as if they have arthritis or glass backs ,they look afraid they might break , it's all nonesense. Then we have the scrum halve he rarely feeds the ball where it should go , and invariably he feeds the last man /loose forward . I am an ardent Rugby League fan BUT i do like watching Rugby Union too and when one see's the scrum's i am truly envious, granted there are two extra players in the scrum due to the fact they have 15 in their code to 13 in league but as you say Bentlegs they are only a means to what i don't know, i hope i have not bored you .
