NATO

Should it toughen up its act?

Is it wise to move cautiously, and avoid widening the current conflict?

Or, does signalling NATO's weakness and reluctance, prompt Putin to strike now whilst he has an advantage?

The record of appeasement is not good. I guess we will all have seen that giving in to bullies just promotes more bullying!

I am sure that Putin will realise that the lead he has over NATO in missile superiority, will erode over the next few years. It is now or never for the man, and I don't think he will settle for never!

Putin advantage ?

The great Russian army can't take a city a hundred miles from its border - stalled completely and getting decimated by the day.

Nato has nothing to worry about with Russia - Except Nuclear weapons, then all bets are off.

Never mind NATO. Where are the UN? At best they will be having debates that mean nothing.

UN ?
China, India abstaining their vote.
Like Germany they are dependant on Russian energy.
A right mess the world is in.

Putin has the latest generation of missile technology.

US has these in development. Will be a few years until it can deploy any.
Hence an advantage to Putin, which will erode.

Yes, the poor quality of his army is apparent. This has not impeded the mass destruction which he has wrought in the past.

Conscripted armies are, with a couple of exceptions, poor quality. Conflict today needs well trained professional personnel.

But if you signal in advance that you will not use them, they become as useful as a chocolate teapot!

I am pretty sure that there will be many a mother who have son's & daughter's in the armed forces will not want their loved ones to take any role or action what so ever against Russia . GB .

Times of war have changed and we are no longer in the days of the second world war and inspirational moral raising speeches by a Prime Minister and military action just about ground troop action like what is happening in Ukraine.

NATO have got their hands tied as any military intervention in the Ukraine could result in a war, the like of which has never been seen before and if it were to happen would never happen again as we are now in a age of nuclear weapons in the hands of super powers like China, Russia and USA with North Korea ready to side with China and Russia.

We can only hope that Russia will fail like they did in Afghanistan or there is a revolution in Russia against it's present leadership!

It is not an inspirational speech. It is a warning of the dangers of appeasement.
