Bird Wrestling

Started by: tomplum (12354)

This morning I have been wrestling with a female Blackbird that got stuck in some netting I use to keep the cats off my veg patch, She was very distressed and fought tooth and nail , We both rolled about in the soil and netting and, I knew I had to free her of all the netting if she wants to fly properly, the netting was entangles round her head, wings and feet, She pecked at me vigorously as I kept a firm grip to cut away the netting and took quite a few minutes until I finally freed her of all the netting , Then I placed her on the ground and she took off like bat out of hell, She never looked back, not even so much as a ' by your leave' A wonderful moment in the day and, now I'm thinking of protecting my veg patch in other ways,

Tom I don't have a veg patch but I've finally stopped cats by putting egg shells in the area and it's solved the problem

The rescuing of birds. I know the feeling only to well. Because there is a window at each end of my lounge birds occasionally believe they can fly straight through. Most are dazed with the collision but normally recover with a little cuddle and feeling safe. Not long ago however I heard an almighty bang, a fully grown male pheasant had hit the kitchen window, it was dead, I didn’t know what to do with it so binned it.

I get them flying into the patio doors. The little ones seem to recover but
i've had a dead wood pigeon and a dove.

Putting a small transfer in the middle of the window usually solves the problem..but not a flower transfer.

Nj: I've never heard of eggshells for repulsing cats. How do you (or your gardener) do it? The broken sides up or down, in a row, random, all in one area, round the side?

The cats that come in my garden leave dead birds, mice and voles, they're horrid. I've tried pepper spray and all sorts.

Cats are frightened to death of Cucumbers!
If you want to see what happens, look on YouTube, just type in ‘cat sees cucumber’!

Platty the area is under some bushes so I just threw them in haphazard

Thanks, I'll try it. The furry things come in under the bushes or over the fence above the bushes and then down under them.

Thanks everyone, I have now removed the netting and spread a load of rose thorns/branches on my veg patch, That should stop the moggies scratching the veg patch
