PETROL /DIESEL ?

Started by: GOLDEN BEAR (6556)

I see the latest increase's by our supermarket chains is to jack up the price of fuel yet again. I just wonder at times what our parents would have thought about it . By my calculations the price of petrol which is now £ 144.9 per LITRE , WHICH EQUATES TO ARE YOU READY FOR THIS ???
£ 6.52 PER GALLON OF PETROL ,DIESEL IS ABOUT £ 6.75 A GALLON . my question is WHY CAN'T THESE GARAGE'S SHOW THE COST OF OUR FUEL IN GALLON'S MY THINKING IS IF THAT WAS SHOWN IT WOULD AWAKEN PEOPLE AT THE ACTUAL TRUE COST BECAUSE WHEN THE GOV INCREASE'S IT AT TEH MOMENT IT DOES NOT SOUND AS BAD A COUPLE OF PENCE HERE AND THERE BUT THE ACCURATE COST WOULD BE TIME'S 4.5 THAT FIGURE THEY SHOW US . I TOTALLY BELIEVE THE MOTORIST IN BRITAIN ARE BEING WELL AND TRULY " SHAFTED "

The younger generation wouldn't have a clue about gallons, they went out nearly 30 years ago.

Yoo can normally set it on the dash to either mpg or mpl, or use km instead, I still think in mpg

I am like GB I think in gallons can remember when petrol was 35 pence a gallon. Also can you pump petrol/diesel to point 7 or point 9 pence per litre. Petrol/diesel is dispensed to the next pence therefore should not be advertised at say £1.44point 7/9a litre but £1.45

In 1962 I got change from a pound for 4 gall, my wage was £14 a week, I checked last year, and petrol was cheaper then it was in 1962.

Wholesale cost of petrol and diesel has been falling over last few days. Chap from RAC ont telly says its "rocket and feather". They respond to increase by putting retail price up like a rocket, but fall comes like the slow downward drift of a feather. He also said retailers are taking a mark up twice the size of their typical mark up which had existed prior to this price hike.

Peter, I got the average take home pay for both years, and worked out the average price in gallons and last year the average wage bought more gallons than in 1962.
