Road signage

Started by: JR (525)

Just seen a road sign appear near the Mount at Orrell. Only briefly drove past but appeared to be a cloud with a letter C. Anyone know what it represents?

Seriously, though, JR, it's the 'Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone' sign.
It's going to remind people who are driving vans and lorries older than 2016, that they've just been charged the day-rate for entering G.M. territory!

They are being placed at all Greater Manchester boundaries from other counties. (nothing to do with Wigan, Wigan council, borough, parish, or Wigan in any way, shape or form. Greater Manchester County entry points from each surrounding county.)

To be clear, If I'm on't Baaaike laaaaike and i dont emit any pollution from my body, Or do any burn outs from't tyres , I can go from town to town, city to city completely free of,
Tax, insurance, mot, petrol, surcharges, fines, parking fees or fear of being cloned,
its a no brainer,

GREATER MANCHESTER LOW-EMISSION STRATEGY

"Reduce air pollution as a contributor to ill-health in Greater Manchester. ... man-made emissions of greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, are the main cause".

"Research from the group SaveOnEnergy.com reveals that the North West is second only to London for CO2 output."

"Oldham figures are disappointing, the town is 16th in the North West for CO2 emissions"

" CO2 is so far the largest contributor to climate change"

"Evidence that CO2 emissions are the cause of global warming is very robust"

However ....... A Diesel engine produces far less CO2 than a petrol engine does. So why are diesel engined vehicles being outlawed?

Tonker, I agree with your comment on diesel engines.
I also like your 'cloud cuckoo' joke!

Because the majority of commercial vehicles use diesel engines and the majority of commercial vehicles are used for longer periods than non commercial vehicles.
