Beware the special offer

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

Was helping my neighbour, searching on the net. Noticed 'Three' 5g broadband hub: unlimited data, unlimited device connection @ £22 PCM for 24 months.

Not in the market for one at the moment, but did comment that I thought that a good price. (Have not systematically searched for alternative offer prices)

By sheer coincidence, post arrived, and contained a mailshot from '3'. Special offer: I could have the same thing for £30 PCM!

And, later in the day, from them an email offering it for £29 PCM to existing customers!

I am minded to move away from 'Three' when my current contract expires.

Similar event. Our Virgin TV package was due to expire in March and move from a 18 month set fee of 90 pounds per month to the going rate for our package 120 per month. I rang them up to see if there were any deals going as per the previous transaction. I was told there were deals available for new customers only. This went on for about 20 mins and , getting nowhere, I told the advisor i'd be jumping ship. 2 days later, no comeback, so off to town and a discussion at Carphone Warehouse where a deal was agreed to move to Sky with the same package for 79.99 per month. Details were taken and they said to come back the next day and they'd sort my phone out too and contact Virgin to inform them of the switch. Lo and behold, the Morning after I get a phone call from Virgin who asked why I was leaving ? After telling them they put me through to the " Loyalty Department " who, after a brief discussion about who could do what for how much, sorted me a fee of 66.90 fixed for 12 months, same package, and to ring back when this was due to expire, they would contact Sky and exercise my 14 day cooling off option. So we are 24 pounds better off than the original deal, 53 pounds better off than what they wanted to charge us and nearly 15 pounds better off than the new Sky deal ?? Who's ever heard of a Loyalty Department ? I kid you not.

New customers must get an awesome deal then Basil, ours was 23 quid better than our last negotiated deal 18 months ago though a department I didn't know existed. We'll be doing the same again next year.

at one time, a few years ago, they were offering a free telly, to new customers, with certain deals, I don't blame you for doing the same.

WN1 I was asked to pay £79 to Sky new price as my contract was ending. I changed to Plusnet £31 month & Sky upgraded me to Sky Q £19 month. So my total is £50 & love Sky Q

A few years ago I was going through the same problems and told Virgin I was not happy with their quote They were offering less to new customers not to loyal customers. In the end was going to cancel and take a new contract under the better halves name . Told me I could not do that until I pointed out she had her own bank account but was the same address they backed down in the end and I got the lower rate.
