London is to welcome more than a hundred families from Afghanistan after thousands were forced to flee following the Taliban takeover.

So far 27 boroughs have shown they are keen and able to help, taking between 125 and 152 refugee families arriving in the UK.

Greenwich and Enfield are taking the most people, according to a survey by London Councils. Families have already begun arriving in Ealing and Barnet under the scheme, which is mainly run via the private rented sector and community partners.

Afghans who worked with the British government and military can apply through the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy. The Government announced on Wednesday that Afghans who worked with the British government and military will be able to move to the UK permanently.

For all the people who are against taking in these Afghan. refugees. I think you will find that most of these refugees have some right to be in the U.K. by working for the British Forces when they were in Afghanistan and are now in danger of being hunted down and executed by the Taliban. Obviously our Moral Compasses differ. We will have to agree to disagree

GB afghani refugees have been relocated around the country not just Wigan. Many helped our military when stationed over there. women there are once again being denied government jobs. Girls are being denied secondary education. it is a brutal regime dominated by men while women are treated as second class. I stand with admin on this .

GB I'm in Plymouth. I don't know how many Afghani refugees we have coming here but I expect there will be some. We occasionally get illegals seeking in from lorries coming in off the ferry and that I do object too. It's nothing like Dover though. I can understand people wanting a better life but it needs sorting. Patel is useless. still, I count myself blessed that i grew up in a free country where I could wear what I liked [even if dad disapproved]. and got a good education , then a good job on equal terms with men. I wouldn't blame any woman for trying to leave Afghanistan with her children. Love you too GB-- a fair discussion is healthy and can remain respectful to all

I passed three Afghans in Wigan yesteday you couldnt see any of their faces. Not need any suncream.

Unfortunately me and her indoors had to attend RBS Bank in the town centre.this morning... Parked on the Galleries... All now automated no humans in sight.. Pay at a pay station on the way out. Went to the bank.. 1 hour waiting time... Off to Moon under water for a pint... Walked through the Galleries and town centre... What an utter disgrace my home town is... Derelict.. Dirty.. Nee'r do wells with begging bowls... Very few people in sight.. For me Wigan council can donate the town centre to these immigrants as I won't be returning to Wigan.

Two points I would like to make
1. I live in Buckinghamshire and we have a large number of people (not sure of actual numbers) from Afghanistan and we have welcomed them as best we can.
2. At the end of WW2 we retained our own leadership as opposed to Afghanistan who have been occupied by a despotic rule and really are in fear of their life if they show any resistance and indeed the country will be taken back in time. to impossible living conditions (and I don't mean housing)

There but for the grace of God and the simple humanity of good folk … Please read what they are fleeing from.
Remove those blinkers and look at the real world.
Wigan will be enriched by these folk. By helping them in their terrible need.

I'm all for the Country helping people out in their hour of need but I don't think the men down at the Brittania Hotel in Standish are currently doing themselves any favours. They certainly aren't enriching the lives of pupils at the local school.

These peoples lives were at risk in their own country for being employed to work for our forces in many rolls. We have a moral obligation to remove them from that threat and give them sanctuary here.
