ABBA - Choose the UK

Started by: Tommy Two Stroke (15202)

ABBA have chosen to not only launch their come back doings in the UK, but they are building a purpose built, state-of-the-art theatre at Olympic Park in London, which is where their new shows will be shown, they really did praise the UK and London at the media launch today, and let's face it, with a profile like ABBA have got, they could have chosen any country in the world to launch from, but perhaps not Iran or Afghanistan, but why not Sweden where they come from ?

So once again in my opinion it is the Brexit thing, the UK has more to offer than the EU, and that is why everyone wants to come to the UK

I would suggest that idiots on here should watch the entire video before making comments, so as not to make a fool of yourself

Golden Bear

Brilliant, I bet that show they have planned using holograms will be something to watch

I am quite surprised actually, that no one has posted a nasty comment on here about ABBA, even Tonker hasn't said anything negative about it

Abba. My all time favourite artists.
My very first disappointment of the first lockdown was the cancellation of an Abba tribute band at the Old Courts in Wigan.
We had even bought outfits and wigs to wear
Still, maybe one day.

Their name is a palindrome.
The group's name is an acronym.
Possibly, the group's name could be stated as an acronym due to the fact that the group's name is often typed as 'ABBA' and is always pronounced ABBA.
The group's name as in reference to the logo was an acronym.
I have used past tense as this was at the beginning of the group's career. The design of the ABBA logo was changed during the group's career, possibly around 1976, and the first 'B' was turned around. Technically speaking, the first 'B' was no longer the second letter of the alphabet but a mirror reflection of that letter and therefore could not and cannot be regarded as the letter 'B'. Thus, the logo, with the mirror reflection 'B' cannot be regarded as an acronym.
Personally speaking, the logo change was only a small change but certainly a great artistic change of design. A wonderful marketing design and strategy as it is powerful and iconic. The truly amazing part of the logo design with its mirror reflection 'B' is that many people, myself included, instantly read it as ABBA. Additionally, many people possibly do not consciously notice the mirror reflection 'B'.

"I am quite surprised actually, that no one has posted a nasty comment on here about ABBA, even Tonker hasn't said anything negative about it"

TTS, Tonker may possibly be an ABBA fan. Send an 'S.O.S.' or give him a 'Ring Ring' to 'Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!' and the rest of us an answer.

jathbee,
I'm sure that you were greatly disappointed on receiving the news that the performance of the ABBA tribute band at the Old Courts was cancelled. But, on the bright side, you may now have the chance of watching ABBA perform instead of a tribute band.
Not sure how much a ticket costs, but I am definitely sure that it costs much more than a ticket to watch a band at the Old Courts venue in Wigan.

Sorry but their music isn't to my taste. But I'm not saying they weren't good, if you like that kind of stuff.

I was never a great fan of ABBA, but they were good, otherwise they wouldn't have been as popular as they were.

I don't wish to be disrespectful to them, however, but their youngest member is now 68, the eldest being 72, so they're no longer in their prime and that may reflect in their voices. I hope not, but there's a possibility that it will, and that they won't be miming to their earlier recordings.

I wish them all the luck in the world for their come-back, and hope that their appearance in London is a huge success.

Lots of aging artist are still performing successfully and are still as popular as ever they were. Not a single one of us are as we once were, age does after all takes its toll.

I do recall at one point in 1980's, frequently hearing the comment that ABBA generated more export earnings for Sweden than did Volvo.
