Sore finger
An expression often used by Chinese people who own/work in chip shops.
They are actually saying "salt and vinegar?" but if you're not an experienced chip shop go-er you will have no idea what they're on about.

All hands to the pumps
Help! The phrase comes from sailing days when a leak in the hull required immediate help in bailing out the incoming seawater. A variant is “all hands and the cook on deck,” meaning the entire ship's roster was needed in an emergency, even the cook, who was never expected to participate in mariner activities.

And you don't get salt and vinegar at the fish and chop shop, Chinese or not. You haven't for years. What you get is a liquid flavored with chemicals and acid that have a similar bite to vinegar. The Police Office initiated on the Thames in 1798. It is the first official police office. It is responsible for:
Police "Station" when the boats were on station; and
"Beat" e.g.the police on the beat, which was the beat of the oars in the water as they policed the pool.

In those days the Thames was so busy, it took 2 months for a ship to be released and get out of London and the police were busy with all sorts of crimes.

I wonder if Liverpool was similar.

Whats Arfur got to say about your earlier comment? I am going to refrain from using the exact term because, unlike yourself who never considers others I believe some of those unfortunate enough to suffer from the condition may find it offensive.
