Asda : New Tills

Started by: Tommy Two Stroke (15199)

I have been to Asda today, and all of the conveyor belt self-service tills have gone., and maybe some more of the manned tills have gone too.

In their place there qre now, and as far as the eye can see, a myriad of different types of self-service tills, first of all at the far end of the line, past the post office, there are these new tills which just look like an old-fashioned pair of scales, so I presume those are for people who only have one or two items, then there is an enlarged 'Scan & Bugger Off" area, and then there are these new tills, and I shouldn't really call them tills, because they are called EPOS'S which is a plooral for EPOS (Electronic Point Of Sale) and these new ones, and there are a lot of them. and they are sideways on to the barrier surrounding the area, and I have never seen them before, but they look good, and they have a packing area with a lip on it, so the till can insult customers who annoy it.
Then there is the basket area, and I was going to use one of these new tills, when an Asda woman grabbed me, and dragged me into the Scan & Go area, and she did me in there

So too yoo old fogeys who don't like self service, hee,,, ENJOY

Once used the self service till for a few items. Put an empty bag on the scales to put my shopping in after I got round to scanning them. Iritable voice kept saying unidentified item in the bagging area and it would not let me scan anything, Girl came over and I told her I was not handling my items twice has I wanted to scan my items then bag them up.,She scanned something and it worked . Items scanned then put strraight into my shopping bag. Far easier to deal with a human on a till than a scanning m/c

PeterP

Try just using one hand to scan the product and put it into the bagging area, because the till is weighing your shopping as you are putting it through, and if you try and scan another product, before you have placed the previous product in the bagging area, then the till will throw a wobbler, but if you just use the one hand, you cannot bugger it up

"choose your favourites, or have a browse" .... says the machine in Tescoses..

So, I put four pomegranates on the scales, that's choosing my favourites, then I have a browse and click on carrots !

I've paid by using the scanners in a couple of stores in Wigan town centre..no problem, but those in Asda are terrible, every time I look at them one of the Asda workers are there having to help a customer..they're hopeless..I order on line now, much better.

Just been in ASDA today seeing all those robotic tills ,utter disgrace was speaking to staff and post office staff they all said they are against them in an effort to safeguard jobs but ,as they say management want them so that's the end of the issue , akin to what is happening in CORBY at the weetabix factory the bosses there are doing or trying to implement what british gas did and thats FIRE AND REHIRE ON A LESSER CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT . I would like to know just what the TUC are doing about all this ?? I used to think once upon a time that when you joined a company and started work one would sign a binding contract of employment and that was that so again i ask JUST WHAT THE HELL ARE THE UNIONS AND TUC DOING ????? G.B.

Please explain to me what your problem is ? I thought this site was a way of expressing one's view's / or opinion's so i take it you have never complained or moaned about a topic ? I wrote this because i think that there are a hell of a lot of people who do not like the thought's of all this technology and prefer to use cash after all there are several million oap's who aren't conversant with cards and use cash , let alone the job losses that occur in the name of progress . So i will keep a look out for your comments from now on toooo!!! GB

Lectriclegs, I'll let you into a little secret, since I retired I have lots of time to read the threads. There are thousands to peruse and it gives a pretty good insight into the characters behind some of the masks. It's pretty obvious you have a grudge against certain site users, a goldfish with half an eye could see that.

Make it into jars of jelly.
Herring's belly, jars of jelly.
Herring's scales, a ship that sails.
Herring’s eyes, puddings and pies.
Herring's tail, barrel of ale.
Herring's fins, needles and pins.
Herring's yed, loaves o' bread,
And all manner of things.

I don't like people losing jobs in the name of progress. If they want us to do the job of their staff then discounts should be offered.

Replied: 11th Jun 2021 at 22:02

They are not losing their jobs though, are they ?

When the store is quiet, the staff are doing other jobs, they don't leave them sat on the checkouts doing nothing, they will be filling shelves or whatever, and then when it gets busy more tills are opened, and a lot of the staff are picking orders for customers, for online delivery or click & collect, I don't mind the self-service as long as yoo are in reach of an Asda woman, in case you get stuck.

I said 'woman' because I cannot recall a 'man' ever being on the self-service tills, and if it comes to that I cannot remember when I last saw a 'man' on any of the tills in Asda.

And there are not many young people working in Asda either.

There are none or very few ethnic minority people working in Asda.

Sexist
Ageist
Racist

That should satisfy a few on these message boards

Nineteen men no job when the JCB arrived. As with lots of jobs natural wastage applies. When someone resigns or move so they don’t replace them. As far as I know it isn’t compulsory to use the said machines. If I have ten items and can line up or self checkout the it is a no brainer. That is merely my personal preference.
