Started by: gaffer (7953)

Hospital admissions linked to obesity in England topped 1 million last year for the first time. 10 years ago the figure was 142,000. Females accounted for two thirds of the admissions.

It doesn't surprise me, some people eat nothing else but junk food.
You see them walking round Tesco looking like an elephant on two legs.

Read in press a while back that Wigan is worse place in the country for obesity.

Also, that we do consume fewer calories today than we did 50+ years back.

However, we also expend fewer calories in physical activity than we did, and the latter is far greater a reduction than the former.

It has frequently been said, that if you are going to ban anything on health grounds, banning the TV remote control should be considered!

When I finished down the pit I ballooned in size, When I worked down the black hole I walked everywhere. Then I got a driving job driving a FLT plus got a car ,At one time even though I am 6ft1in weighed nearly 21 stone. Then after my cancer op and being told I was type 2 diabetic I slowly started to loose weight Told to eat every thing in moderation and now I am still overweight at 18stone 5lbs, I am at least slowly loosing weight but it is hard work at times .Some people can loss the pounds easily and others just need to look at food and get bigger

With a username like mine, you would expect me to be obese, I see many young girls today who are bigger than what is considered 'normal' for their age, feet size and Body index Mass, according to what the health experts say,, They don't care, their attitude is, " hey I'm a fatty and that's how it is, if you don't like it tough"
Big butts in tight short pants with a bare spare tyre bulging out and bouncing about as they do a dance routine to attract a boyfriend,
and when the boys don't fancy them, they go to MacDonalds and get a happy meal to feel good, Its not their fault them boys don't appreciate the , fuller figured , big curved girls,

Some sixty years ago, when I was in my early teens, there were chip shops and pie shops everywhere you went. About ten years after we had a proliferation of Chinese Chippies appearing. Were those not classed as fast food establishments selling unhealthy foods? I do agree that there are lots more obese people now though. We used to “ play out” every daylight minute playing cricket, rugby, football, hide and seek etc. etc. All these involved moving about. Now there are TV’s with wall to wall sport. Hundreds of channels. Most houses have access to cars ( no more running for the bus) If you play organized sport at a young age there is a maximum score so “ you don’t cause mental problems for the losers” Sports have to be non competitive for the same reason. No more rationing. You all get the gist.

At my school there was only one , fat boy, the school meals were,
boiled or mashed spuds, green beans, butter beans, carrots or broccoli,
dessert was , tapioca, semolina or on a good day, rice pudding, No one ever asked for second helpings, As broady says, we ran, we played, we skipped and jumped, At home mum cooked one meal for all, if you did not like it, there was no options, eat or go hungry, there was no buscuits, no crisps or goodies to munch on, I hear my grandkids saying, " thats not my kinda food" Ha ha, they've never gone hungry because, when you are hungry you will eat a flock bed,

You are quite right about some nursing staff, they are obese.
And advising people to lose weight and eat more healthy food is a farce when coming from some one who is twice the size you are.

I simply do not understand the obsession with their food. Maybe an age thing but my experience of it is definitely not a favourable one.
When I have taken my grandsons in past years, I have given the food a miss.
