Tiles with Style
Architectural photographer, James Davies, has posted this on Twitter:
“What a greeting to this shop entrance in Wigan with these tiles of C.1906.”

James didn’t name the shop - anyone got any ideas?

There aren't many things that make me say "WOW" but this certainly did.
Absolutely stunning.

Jo Anne it looks to me like the entrance to the Raven pub on Wallgate?

riocaroni, I thought the same. It was one of my first thoughts when I saw the photo of the tiles.
No matter where those tiles are in Wigan, it is wonderful to know that some beautiful architecture/fittings/interior deco... are still with us and Wigan Council or some outside building company haven't (yet) wiped them off the face of the Earth.
Although James Davies states: "... with these tiles of C.1906.”, I would say that they are Victorian. Possibly, Albert liked the designs his mother introduced to him so much, he kept the production going!
Anyway, it really doesn't matter if they are Victorian or Edwardian, because they are almost 120 years old, they are beautiful, and they are still part of the interior deco of a shop in Wigan. GREAT!
An appreciative THANK YOU to James Davies and jo anne.

If you go onto google street view and peep into the Bridal Shop doorway you will see Diston is correct in what he says.

jo anne, have you any idea what the premises were originally when the tiles would have been put in place?
They do remind me strongly of the tiling of the restored Victorian Baths in Manchester.
