Just when you don't need it.

Started by: Billinge Biker (2384)

Been to hindley this morning to see the in-laws... On the way home called into Robin Park... Nightmare.. Couldn't get on for people queueing up for fast food at burger King and kentucky... Anyway her indoors nips into card factory for the upcoming essentials... I stay in car as it is persisting down... 20 mins later her indoors returns... And off we set off on the way home.... Turned onto montrose avenue norley Hall to hear a rumbling sound from the rear.... Oh no... Not a flat!! Yes... The preverbial pancake. After muttering several profanities... Park up and admire the cats and dogs raining down. Luckily when cleaning car last week "Shining like a diamond thread" I did check the spare so I knew it was okay. "Are you ringing Green Flag" her indoors suggests... Green xxxxxxxxxxx flag I say... I'll do it. Spare out jack at the ready.... "Are you going to sit there or get out and hold the brolly" enquires I.... "it's wet and cold" is her reply... More profanity... Doing beltin... Until 2 of the nuts will not budge for love nor money... More profanity... Then a nice young couple pull alongside... Need any help? Just two nuts won't budge I say... They park up and the nice young chap (appearance of a muscle bosun) takes said spanner and with a bit of brute force loosened the nuts... Had your weetabix says I... Thanked him and off he went... Spare put on and still a bit of a drowned rat got back in the car and off to home.
A tale of woe ye might think... But me being me memorised his number plate... I have submitted a forn V888 to dvla at a small cost and reasonable reason to request his address so I can either call or send him a Thankyou card and a token gift.... Restores my faith in human nature and I will stop when I see a similar situation to offer my services.... Providing I have had my weetabix that morn

Not your day was it? Good to know there are still some knights in shining armour though willing to help someone in distress. I wouldn't have a chance at all of changing a wheel on my car as I'm only 7½ stone.

What I THOUGHT you were going to say at the end was that when you submitted his information to the DVLA you found out that he was wanted by the Police.

Took said tyre to my mates garage yesterday.... No foreign bodies in the tyre... Apparently a weak seal... All fixed. Just waiting now for dvla to furnish the good samaritans details so I can thank/treat them... Had to get a £2.50 postal order to cover the fee... Don't have a cheque book anymore

I had the same problem with the DVLA, as in no cheque book, when I sent off for a tachograph driver card, £32 and the DVLA don't take electronic payments, I went to Winstanley Post Office, where they said we are closing down, and we have no postal orders left, and they said Clap Gate Lane, Post Office did not doo them, so they said try Asda, and this was at the height of the recent wave of the covid, and I am queuing up in Asda Post Office, and I was pooing meself in case I caught it

At the counter the woman said I have no postal orders left, and looked at me as though I was stupid, but her colleague to one side said that she had some, and she said " is it for the DVLA" to which I said of course "yes" so she printed the recipient name on the thing.

You can pay your car tax to the DVLA by card, but it seems nowt else, and I am really unimpressed with that, especially as yon government as been encouraging electronic payments for well over a year now.

Billinge Biker: 'Don't have a cheque book anymore'
What's a cheque book?
I've got one, but haven't used it for donkey's years. Some young uns probably don't know what one is!
All plastic cards and online transactions these days!
Some places won't even take cash.

The Asda Post Office told me that they only took cash for postal orders, and luckily I had £32 quid in me pocket

BB....that feller in Billinge post office is a dead loss. I went to take my car off SORN, he had NO idea what to do, kept on telling me I had to pay road tax.I put my encounter on these boards some time back.

The Conclusion... Its taken DVLA 4 weeks to reply to me.... "Unfortunately your circumstances of the request doesn't conform to our present guidelines. But... If you send us a letter we will forward it on to the vehicle owner.. But this will cost you £5.".!!!! I only wanted to say Thankyou and offer a bottle or two of vino.. The daft thing is I could have asked two of my family members who are still serving officers to get me the details from the PNC (Police national computer) taking a matter of seconds... BUT.. In this day and age the DATA protection act could land them in bother... That's why I chose this route. I will keep my eyes open he must be local to Pem/Orrell/Norley.. If you see it parked up anywhere please let me know.

Light blue audi saloon reg no. T30 SUN
Thanks Ian. (B. B.).
