Whats going on?

Started by: disco_diva (inactive)

Im totally appalled with the all news channels and newspapers. All we have covering everything is 'Big Brother'. A more important story is i feel the marines who went into taliban territory to rescue the body of one of our brave soldiers. They risked all there lives whilst some of them were strapped to an apachi helicopter. These lads and others who risk there lives every day, some stories that get no coverage, deserve bravery honours.

I agree with your comments DD,
The media are to blame for all the hype about BB it is a game and should not be given the amount of coverage it is having I cant believe my local radio station has talked of nothing else all morning it is being seen as a racist issue and blown out of all proportion

I wouldn't demean myself by watching such drivel although one of my daughters does All I can add is that the people who watch that rubbish are the ones I feel sorry for, as the people who put their names forward for that and other similar reality shows know what they are letting themselves in for. As far as I am concerned they are only in it for the money or the publicity (so you reap what you sow).

Surely if we have a TV we can watch what we like?
I watch the BB at 9pm, not every night but I like to keep up with it all because it DOES make news whether folk like it or not. I never vote and that is the crux of the show, more phone and text entries more money for the makers.
I still keep in touch with the real world and news, I was so proud of those marines too.
Does watching BB make me an idiot then?
Brush and tarring come to mind.........

Whenever something trivial takes over half of the news on tv, I start to look at other channels like CNN, Fox or Aljazeerah.

Answer me one thing Minnie what pleasure do you get from watching bb (sorry but cannot lower myself to use capitals)and what constitutes news and the real world. My favourite programme is BBC News 24, so as regards watching what ever you want is democracy in action but what price conscience.

Listen Aitch, it's like music, I don't listen to one genre or artist, a little of my time watching the highlights of BB does me or you any harm. I do not contribute to the revenue generated by the phone lines.
It's not pleasure that I get from it but at least when it's mentioned on message boards I can say in all honesty that I know what it's about, unlike you Aitch who deems himself above himself to watch it but is an expert on what it's about??
What constitutes the real world is what is really important to us (or me) i.e. immigration, asylum seekers, the war in Iraq, my pension, my N.H.S.,.......

I refer the honourable Lady to the reply I gave earlier. And as regards music I can listen and enjoy anything from jazz c and w to classical and rhythm and blues in fact anything as long as it is not this modern garbage.

As on the other thread - people will do just about anything if big money is involved. It's all about TV ratings, followed by advertising, boring show - no advertising money. Controversial show, more people watch to see what all the fuss is about, more money from advertising.

Some people will do anything for their 15 mins. of fame. If you wave the dollars/pounds/euros in front of some people, morals, ethics & principles go straight out of the window. As in the words of Tom Cruise "Show Me The Money".

I don't watch any of that drivel either but I don't denigrate anyone who does. One mon's meyt is another mon's poison, but I've heard enough about this programme (and others of its ilk). The media coverage that's being given to it is indecent when there's real news to be told to the world masses which can or could affect us all. I don't watch the news anymore and I haven't bought a newspaper in years since I read a load of jollop which I knew to be untrue. I watch highlights of the news on telly but I don't watch it from beginning to end. If anything comes on that refers to what I personally call insignificant I press the mute button until summat comes on that's interesting. We can't all be the same, nor would we want to be.

That's exactly right Molly, if people don't like BB or any other programme just click the remote, you have the choice. No one forces anybody to watch anything. Don't like it, don't watch it.

The media probably have hidden agendas, throw in a red herring to distract people from the REAL news.

It's all part of the 'celebrity' news circus, they assume that everybody wants to know what Paris/Brittany/Lindsay had for breakfast. We don't thank you. Insignificant nobodies.

I totally agree with you disco diva about our heroes in the middle east, and it should have been the main new's article on the new's, what a damn insult to show such crap instead of our lad's rescuing one of their own,
I have got much better thing's to do with my time than to watch such drivvel,
If this so called asian actress didn't like the comment's that were made about her why didn't she depart, according to the gutter press, it all stemmed from her eating with her finger's, what can you expect when you are brought up with monkeys

It gets worse - the whole thing has been reported in Aus on the main 6pm evening news!! Do we really need to know about it? Isn't there anything more important to report?

I know who you meant. but the remark was still uncalled for. Even though I do not watch bb what I have seen on the news she looks to be a very nice young lady and probably never seen a monkey.

TruckerDave
You seem to think it is acceptable to state that the Bollywood actress was brought up with monkeys
She appears to be a very dignified and well educated person and sensitive to the feelings of others
That remark you made was more racist than anything said on the programme

Don't think Dave would object being treated by a specialist doctor "brought up with monkeys" if he was half dead in a hospital bed!!!
