Old Samuel Crompton born at Bolton le Moor and ‘emigrated’ to Hindley in the 1860’s after his first wife Ann died.
Two splendid photos Veronica, enhanced by Keith & brought to life.
Thank you Helen. The Crompton men seemed to live quite a lot longer than the their women folk. His first wife died very young. I think I might be the one who breaks the mould in the female line. My mother was 63 and her mother was only 38…( little Edna in the other photo.) Her mother Elizabeth nee Pepper was only 40. Her mother Ellen Bannister as was died in her fifties.
I can breathe a sigh of relief having passed three score year and ten. Thank God for the NHS.
Good old victorian photo of Mr Crompton

The barly sugar legs would be worth a tidy sum today,
Also the aspidistra plant in the pot at the side of him
brought memories of my old aunts in the early forties
When I visited them.
