Looks like it could be the Rec behind the doctors surgery, the other side of High Street and Green Lane, although the Rec has more of a slope on it

Shades of the great Bobby Smith (Spurs and England).

Stuart and WN1, after some serious consideration a good friend and myself have decided it is not the Rec at Standish. As young lads we were using the Rec regularly, it was our school playing field from the mid 40's till the late 50's ad we continued to use it for many years as young men. Although it looks very much like the Rec, the one thing which made our minds up, was, the the pair of houses second from the left at the top of the photo, the pair situated through the gap. The Rec had houses at the top of the pitch, Green Lane, and down one side, Greenland Ave, and the view from the pitch of both the Lane and the Ave would not have shown that particular building.

Agree with Roy as this is not the Rec.If you stood in the bottom goalmouth looking uphill to your right would be a line of trees shielding the houses in Greenland avenue.I can remember Curly Marsden patrolling that side of the pitch in the late sixties early seventies.I can't remember there being any houses on the left hand side as you looked uphill.

I don't think it's Standish Rec either - the houses are similar to those on Greenland Avenue - but not the same - they're slightly larger, and have only one set of upper windows, whereas those on Greenland have two sets. Also - the house on the left, at right angles to the main row is not on Green Lane. They look like local council houses to me. There's also a faint image of a tall chimney to the left of that house, which I don't think there ever was (it would be about where The Beeches is, if it were there.)

Yes Peter and we've stood between those bottom posts and looked up the hill a few times. I presume it is Peter B, this is Roy H, see you in the Raven in a few weeks probably.
