St Mary's Lower Ince Mothers' Union visited York in June 1929. In the July 1929 Parish Magazine it says they visited The Shambles there, which some declared 'no nicer than Petticoat Lane'. There isn't another Petticoat Lane in Wigan - so what did the lane look like in 1929? According to the Ince Directory of 1925 there were about 60 houses there, mostly on one side of the road. There are only later Council houses and other properties there now. What treasures were swept away, presumably as 'slums'? Is there a picture from the time anywhere?
