With the old Library showing and the old buildings that stood before the “old new”baths.

I used to hear of Rodney St Chapel from my Foster relatives in Billinge. I used to go to their house for tea on Sundays sometimes & go with them afterwards to Mitchell St Chapel near Alexandra Park. I think Rodney St was where the main Chapel was.

A lot of great photos like this one are available on Wigan and Leigh Archives Online.

I remember joining the ‘old Library’ in 1960 I felt grown up. I loved browsing books and LP records. There wasn’t a huge choice but I remember borrowing the music from ‘ South Pacific’ and other more obscure records to play on my Dansette Record player. I was still at school so I couldn’t really afford many records.

A memorable scene Veronica, I timber it well along with The Pavilion Cinema and the old Millgate Baths that that row of houses backed onto.
I’ve just sent you a ‘today’s’ view from the same spot.
Would have been interesting to see both spliced together seventy years apart.

Yes how can ‘us’ from Scholes forget those places Colin. I hope the photo is accepted it is very good. I don’t think I have seen the scene on PaD but I could be wrong.
