Were the two doorways shown, the equivalent of two public toilets, or at least one?. Seems to have antiquated ventilation above one of them.

At the time this photo was taken what is now known as Arcade St was called Elbow Lane. This ran from the bottom of Rowbottom Square to Millgate.
Hewlett Street now follows the line of the old Elbow Lane between Millgate and Library Street (Library Street had yet to be built when pic was taken).

Had relatives in elbow lane did it go into the bottom end of scholes
