I searched WW and found a photo of a very dilapidated Crooke Hall in 1900 that wasn’t in Places and felt that this drawing of the Hall in its prime deserves preserving.
Robert Catterall, the owner of the land on which it stood died in 1603, (the same year as Queen Elizabeth 1st) and left instructions for a house to be built for his 16, year old son Peter, when he was of an age to marry. In 1608 when he was due to marry Crooke Hall was built.
Reference the sketch map of Crooke Village, item 33494, it was in the field to the south of Crooke Methodist Church approx. half-way between the farm Mr. Tommy Halsall ran in the 1970’s and the Canal.
Apparently, it was very popular place in the late 1920 for dancing and parties.
This drawing is just brilliant.
It's on the wall of the Crooke Pub
