ADVERT FOR CARS

Comment by: DerekB on 22nd September 2021 at 23:32

This advert dates from the immediate post war situation when , unless you were in a preferential occupation such as doctor, you couldn't buy a new car without going on a several years long waiting list, the slogan being export or die. This led to preferential buyers obtaining new cars and selling them on to wealthy buyers, who were prepared to pay prices far beyond the list price for them, then the preferential buyer using their priority status to buy another new one. The loophole was closed when legislation was introduced where preferential buyers were prevented from selling on their new car from a minimum period from from buying it.

Albert.S. I think you mean Mab's Cross Motors who were at that time Wigan's Vauxhall Agency

DerekB. That seems correct to me. It certainly sounds very familiar.
