During this work the last vestiges of the mineral line which, in its latter years, served the Land Sales depot on Warrington Road (beside the building where the last Post Office was), were removed. Two rails, about 3 yards long, were embedded in the tarmac on the left-hand side of the road - behind the white van.
The track came off the main line in the cutting between the cemeteries, and then went under the Pemberton Loop line before crossing the road here. (Map to follow)
Westwood Garage on the right was replaced with houses soon after this - despite there being a mine shaft in the yard behind.

I remember seeing the embedded tracks as described a good few years ago, I’ve been trying to rediscover them during lockdown wanderings, a total fools errand it transpires! Ditto the old turntable near Britannia Bridge. All traces seem to have been obliterated, unless of course someone knows different.......?

Lived in the area at the top of Westwood Lane, sixty years ago. Winchester Grove. All those years ago, you never envisaged what future changes would take place in all localities.
