I remember this shop very well Ron. They sold Bathroom suites, as well as everything else.I vaguely remember Bill and his family being neighbours of ours when I was a young girl.

I remember this shop from way back when I went to the Methodist school just round the corner in Dicconson St. Dont know what it sold though. Also round the corner to the right was a sweet shop,we bought Tiger Nuts & Licqorice sticks, the sticks were literally sticks abt 10" long, you chewed them for the flavour & they made your tongue yellow !

Helen of Troy, do you remember the furniture maker's shop next to the sweet shop you mention? The name Standish's rings a bell with me.

I remember those Licqorice sticks Helen. It was like chewing a small branch from a tree. But they were delicious.

Derek, the Soft Furnishings shop you remember was Standish, later when they retired it became a Pram and Baby shop, which Philip probably remembers.

Thanks Cyril for confirming the Standish name . Some well to do relatives of ours always had their three piece suites made there. I have also now seemed to remember the owner's name was Vic Standish.

It used to have "Vincent Standish" in large letters over the windows if I remember rightly
