You don't often see buttresses on a wooden building, do you.

I guess they are covering the structural members bearing the roof load.

I seem to recall that it was only meant to be a temporary building, and had served for much longer than intended, finishing up in a poor state of repair.

I do recall hearing people say they preferred it to its replacement.

I think the vicar was named Salmon in the early fifties, then followed by Johnson.

the old St. Lukes church at Stubshaw cross was of a similar design I think (where the care home is now opposite Golborne Rd) Never seen a full photo of that one though

I was christened at St. Peter's in March, 1954. My mother went to St. Peter's school.
