What a delightful photo. Thank you Mick
What would be the hill distant left?. Parbold,Harrock,Hunters?..
I'm often up adjacent Great hill and can never decide.
Did she manage it then?
She did John.
This is coming from the Bolton side I presume...
Is that coming down Two Lads (Crooked Edge Hill) Mick?
Yes Dennis it is taken from Crooked Edge Hill just off Georges Lane.I don't think the distant hill is Parbold Poet, I would say this view is looking north. I'll have a closer look next time I'm up there!
View is looking west Mick over the Lancs plain to Southport.
The M6 is running parallel to the horizon.
I reckon those hills are to the southwest. Hunters Hill I reckon.
Lovely photo by the way.Regards.
Now then Mick this is an unusual shot on your behalf
Where are the class 40’s
Poet if I can still read an OS map(and I think I can) this is looking north, maybe slightly NNW. Looking west from this point you would see Rivington reservoirs and the M61. Thanks for the compliment by the way.
Anybody who gets out and about would know it was Hunter hill
Thanks for responding Mick. I'm still baffled by yonder hill however! Clearly not the Lakeland fells. Perhaps the key lies in the position of the mast on Winter Hill which stands to the north east of the Pike. You can see the path to it running off on the right.
What a view , this child that grew , what a new and glorious adventure !
As we question , argue and debate , her mark is not yet born in fate , she sees just an open , empty , far reaching canvas .. what a moment , we each can fill , as one book opens , one lies still . I hope she will fly , don’t you ..
She sees just an open empty canvas... lovely words to match this photo.
A Resolute Young Lady's View
Threads of frost net the dry stone walls.
Iron rimmed wheels on granite biting cold.
The wind plastering the heather back
In to the icy skull of Winter Hill,
Face skinned raw in the blowlamp roaring chill.
And armed with gloves and hat and scarf
I have no need for logs and hearth.
An excellent photo.
Mick. I hope that the title of my verse meets with your approval. Thanks.
"Miss Langton (By Rivington Pike.)"
Kindly friends on pathway, parted
To you I shall return
With giddy tales of fairies bright,
From yonder hilltop, churned.
You'll love my glib, and day-long smile
Then sway in measured time
While gentle notes from smaller stems
Will get you fairies nine.
I'll also give my honest word
Of which you'll hearten much
Come Springtime bloom - your pastel shades -
Will feel my gentle touch.
Only one problem Philip G. She is my daughters daughter so a Miss Doran!
Thanks Mick (I was aware that 'I could get it wrong'). And my apologies to all concerned. A very good photo, too.
Regards.
Went up the Pike and Two Lads today and took some compass readings. From the cairn on Two Lads on a line with the tower I got 290 degrees. From Mick's approx vantage point 300. What I presume is Hunter's Hill reads due west.
